The economic situation in Laos is dire. In 1 yr+ the currency has gone from 8500 kip= 1USD to 22000. It’s just lost 10% in 2 days. No one will accept kip anymore, only US or Thai baht. Fuel crisis getting worse. Petrol near impossible to find/only sold by bottle for double.
In Luang Prabang, the few hotels & restaurants that survived 2 years of closed borders, the inflation, cost of goods, currency crash will probably be the straw to break the camel’s back.
Unfortunately, the canteen in Luang Prabang that was feeding some very desperate people announced it can no longer continue due to no donations / high costs of goods. #laos

**I should clarify, the 22,000 kip = 1 USD isn’t the official market exchange, it’s what you can actually get at the money changer, according to friends in Laos.
