Ginni Thomas, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife, pressured 29 Arizona lawmakers to help overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 defeat, reports the @washingonpost. We’ve filed a suite of public records requests to investigate the Thomas’ political activism.
washingtonpost.com/investigations…
We’ve previously published records that show Ginni Thomas’ ties to the Trump admin. and others that suggest her husband, Justice Clarence Thomas, was in contact with Fla. Gov. DeSantis.
americanoversight.org/ginni-thomas-r…
This spring, we filed more #FOIA requests to investigate her links to the Trump admin.

We asked DHS, DOT, HHS, HUD, Treasury, & more for emails sent or received by officials during the Trump admin. that include terms such as “Thomas Clerk,” “Ginni Thomas,” & “Justice Thomas."
We also asked each agency for any communications to or from Ginni Thomas or anyone communicating on her behalf.

These records could shed light on the Thomas’ political connections and influence.
americanoversight.org/documents?docu…
In March, the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection obtained texts showing Ginni Thomas repeatedly pushed former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to pursue Donald Trump’s election-overturning schemes.
washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
Last year, Ginni Thomas invited Florida Gov. DeSantis to join a call for a “cone-of-silence coalition,” records we obtained show. She told DeSantis’s aides that her husband, Justice Thomas, had been in contact with the governor “on various things.”
americanoversight.org/ginni-thomas-r…
Ginni Thomas’ career as a prominent conservative activist, more heavily involved in politics than any other spouse of a Supreme Court justice in history, has for years raised concerns among legal experts who note that justices typically avoid even being seen as partisan.
Through her activism, Ginni Thomas has taken stances on issues that have come before the Supreme Court, such as on abortion, gun rights, and the Affordable Care Act, and recently took on major role in challenging Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.
Justice Thomas’ repeated failure to recuse himself on multiple matters relevant to his wife’s advocacy has been the subject of scrutiny.

BREAKING: A Wisc. court has now issued a written decision and order that the state Assembly’s Office of Special Counsel — which is conducting a partisan review of the 2020 election — is in contempt.
americanoversight.org/document/compl… Image
Today’s written order follows last Friday’s holding from Judge Frank Remington in our ongoing lawsuit seeking to uncover records from the 2020 election review led by Michael Gableman.
Today’s order instructs Michael Gableman, the attorney in charge of the OSC, to submit proof that he complied with the court’s previous order to search for and produce records that we requested under Wisconsin’s public records law.

Prior to the 2020 election, several top Trump administration officials went on politicized trips to promote Trump’s policies.

Records we’ve obtained show taxpayers paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for the problematic trips.
Former acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf traveled to swing states to tout Trump’s policies in the months before the 2020 election. Taxpayers paid $223,652 for Wolf’s trips to Florida, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Texas.

Records we previously obtained also showed that trips to swing states ahead of the 2020 election by former EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and former Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia cost taxpayers nearly $60,000 in staff travel and expenses.

We’ve been investigating an election “audit” in Fulton County, Pa.

Last year, we obtained text messages and other communications indicating that state Sen. Doug Mastriano apparently threatened the county with a subpoena unless they undertook the review.
americanoversight.org/investigation/…
The Fulton County review took place on Dec. 31, 2020, without the knowledge or attendance of the county’s Democratic commissioner, Paula Shives.
washingtonpost.com/politics/penns…
The documents we obtained contain text messages exchanged later that day by Shives and the county’s other commissioners and the county’s elections director, in which Shives expressed frustration at having been shut out from the review.

This morning’s Jan. 6 hearing highlighted Rudy Giuliani’s role in spreading lies about widespread voter fraud.

Records we’ve obtained document his role in promoting these lies in Arizona.
Former President Donald Trump and his legal team were involved from the beginning in urging the Arizona Senate to discredit the election results by claiming there was widespread fraud.
On Nov. 14, 2020, Arizona Senate President Karen Fann emailed Senate Republicans and said: “We are working with our Congressmen, State Party, Boards of Supervisors, Trump team etc to either prove or disprove concerns.”

Today's hearing of the committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack is expected to focus on the origins and impact of Trump's election lies.

The Wisconsin Assembly's partisan review of the 2020 election — led by Michael Gableman — has been one of the most problematic examples of the damaging effects of Trump's false election claims.

We've been investigating the review for more than a year. americanoversight.org/investigation/…

The Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy forced more than 71,000 asylum-seekers, including children, into dangerous migrant camps along the border.

Here’s what we uncovered about the program and how we’re still investigating. #FoiaFriday
Formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols, the “Remain in Mexico” policy required asylum-seekers who arrive at the southern border to return to Mexico to wait for their claims to be processed.
Records we obtained show that the day after former President Trump issued an executive order winding down the family-separation policy, Stephen Miller emailed Chad Wolf, then DHS chief of staff, saying “return to territory.”
