Here we go again with the third hearings on the January 6 committee. Today’s focus is the campaign to subvert Pence into the plot. This is a lot of good press for Pence’s future and he probably was considering that future last year.

Cheney and Bennie T have wasted no time cutting to the chase today: Trump + Eastman plotted to obstruct joint session and pressure Pence to count alternate electors.

Did Eastman ever admit his plot violated the Electoral count act? Jacobs: yes on Jan 4.

What most surprised Jacobs about the meeting with Eastman on 1/5 was that Eastman shifted from requesting Pence suspend & send back to states and go with the reject slates outright path he’d just advised against on 1/4.

Jacobs really kept trying to explain why this was a non starter illegal plan to Eastman. Tried to emphasize their common agreements as conservatives. Explaining how Eastman was wrong about what Jefferson actually did vs didn’t do. Eastman had a very rosy unrealistic view of this

Ultimately though it’s obvious why Trump grabbed onto the Eastman theory. Narcissists love to be lied to and believe in unrealistic fantasies.

Jacobs: unprecedented constitutional standoff if courts didn’t get involved. Would be resolved in streets as a stand off between POTUS, vp and Congress otherwise. Told Eastman - can’t we agree this is a terrible idea? Eastman couldn’t bring himself to say yes
