Social Care needs a MASSIVE funding boost, given the ENORMOUS budget deficit caused by 12yrs of deliberate underfunding.
We also need Private Care bosses to #PayCarersProperly to end the shortfall. If people can earn MORE doing
jobs like shelf stacking, with little responsibility other than ensuring the shelves are stacked & 'faced out'...then they're NOT going to want to take a role where they earn LESS to take on the life & death responsibility of Care work, are they?! ESPECIALLY when the Gov't keeps
telling people to "find better paid jobs"...
Unfortunately, despite it being made perfectly plain since the pandemic started that Care workers are essential workers, their role is NOT paid a wage equivalent to their responsibility level.
It seems like Private Care Agency
bosses would LITERALLY rather see the STATE Social Care system TOPPLE...*and* take the NHS with ot...than to raise Carers wages to a wage commensurate with the responsibility of the role.
The Torirs have spent the past twelve years undermining the Adult Social Care system, which
BEGAN with the closure of the Independent Living Fund (ILF) that provided more specialised Carers for the Severely Disabled like me. Now we often get NO Carers at ALL. Like me. Then this spread to Home Carers when the unnecessary, ideologically based 'austerity' measures meant
that instead of Social Care DIRECTLY employing the Carers, it would swap to Private Care Agencies providing the Carers, who then got paid LESS than when they were employed by the State.
This has led to PROFIT becoming the driver of Disabled & Elderly Care, instead of the
WELLBEING of the actual people NEEDING Carers.
This has been compounded by the self-destructive act of Brexit, when we WARNED, as service users that it would lead to the complete collapse of the Adult Social Care system as Private Care Agency bosses didn't pay enough for
British staff, and many of them returning to the EU would lead to...#StrandedPatients. Which would then drag the NHS down WITH Adult Social Care.
That was back in 2015 & 2016, when I still used Facebook...
I keep saying, Disabled people are the canaries in the coal mine...Y'all
NEED to start listening to us. We've been warning that a change of leader isn't delaying their overall, long-term plans.
Wharf we are seeing today is the result of 12 years of the Disabled being dismissed, ignored & ridiculed for our predictions of where the Tories were heading.
(WHAT we are seeing, obvs)
Are y'all listening YET?!
The ONLY way to fix the NHS is to fund Social Care PROPERLY *and* bring Home Carers back in-house.
Nobody should profit off the back of other people's misfortunes. It's one of the MANY issues I jabbed with free market
(HAVE. SIGH)
Capitalism.
Either way, there is a #SocialCareCrisis that's CAUSING the symptoms of #FailingNHS. We need to also ensure that the Gov't ENSURE that we #PayCarersProperly - maybe settimg an industry-specific minimum wage that's commensurate with their status as
Disabled easyJet passenger dies 'falling down escalator' at Gatwick Airport
Their assistance didn't turn up, so they tried to make their own way. I said just DAYS ago that there would be accidents if this wasn't sorted. This is because Disabled people
are ALWAYS an afterthought, our safety is NEVER put first...
This SHAMES our entire Country...
We saw other Disabled people being left on planes for HOURS cos their assistance didnt turn up - one even had to threaten to call 999 to get firemen to help him off.
An unnamed source says it's due to staff shortages, but the airport denies that...given all the issues we've seen
Royal Mail workers to vote on strike action that could cripple deliveries
A 2% 'pay rise' is a REAL-TERMS PAY *CUT* when inflation is running at 9%, and is expected to hit 11% by the end of the year. #IStandWithRoyalMail@CWUnews
rise that MEETS OR EXCEEDS inflation, especially when Royal Mail made QUADRUPLE the pre-pandemic profit of £726 MILLION. Thats £726,000,000. And they're refusing to budge from a 2% pay offer.
This is PREDATORY GREED from bosses at this point, and we need to FIGHT for workers
Worker strikes 'not easy to organise' and need 'burning sense of injustice'
@The_TUC Are DEMANDING a fair wage for work. That meets or is above inflation. Workers DEMAND a decent standard of living, and to be brought out of poverty. 4 MILLION kids in
poverty, most have a parent in work. Foid bank use going up & donations going down are leading to them running out of food & having to close without helping everyone that needs it. Teachers, Care Workers, Retail Staff, even our NURSES having to use food banks. 8.5 MILLION in
poverty by the end of this year. Our PM deciding he doesn't need ethics oversight. Why? A summer of attempting to Union-break forthcoming??
Workers have a RIGHT not to live in poverty. So do the Disabled & Elderly. (Until they take that away too, as @DominicRaab says he
Dad dies in front of kids after 'disgusting' ambulance crew left him at home
An ambulance crew wrote off a strangulated umbilical hernia that KILLS someone cos they decided he was an alcoholoic & didn't 'deserve' hospital treatment. This happens more
than you think; ALL medical staff attitudes to addiction & the addicted STINKS...you get the same LACK of treatment if you have a diagnosis of NEAD, which causes seizures. I have epilepsy, but when I was MISDIAGNOSED as having NEAD, I was left seizing to fall off a trolley with
no sides, told to stop wasting their time & to stop 'putting it on'...now I'm dxd with epilepsy, MOST of the time, that's treated reasonably, but due to the treatment & attitudes I faced while misdiagnosed were DISGUSTING. I really feel for those with addiction issues, or
My phone has finally fucked up - I can go online but I can't call ANYONE cos I can only hear THEM when I'm on speakerphone, THEY can only hear me when I'm NOT on speakerphone, and NO FUCKER HAS THE PATIENCE FOR ME TO FLIP BETWEEN THE TWO.
I can't even call the GP & I'm in
FLOODS of tears cos I simply have NO WAY to access a new phone.
I just CAN'T with this useless stupid fuckin half-life I'm left to live like an abused aminal...
If I was a dog, I'd have been euthanised fuckin YEARS ago. Not ONE official department will give me the support I'm
supposed to get, I'm only able to shower once every 6 weeks, so I've got constant skin infections, can't change my sheets without Carers so they stay on for 6 months at a time, barely eat cos I'm so poor, foodbanks aren't able to supply me with food I can actually EAT, MH refuses
And also, this is NEVER going away unless we work on a zero-covid strategy...worldwide. Obviously China knows something we don't... it seems OBVIOUS that they're including the 20% chance of getting Long Covid EVERY time you're infected, see it's a mass-Disabling event, and used
that in their decision-making process. I certainly don't advocate for the severity of lockdowns they're going with, but there is SO much more we can be doing to mitigate the spread.
First off is using some of that £37 Billion given to Dido Harding for Test & Trace, and using
