In many non-Western countries, speaking about such things as desire is scorned as “white” or “Western” behavior. I’ve been accused of being “obsessed” with sex because I insist on talking openly about desire. feministgiant.com/p/essay-my-des…
Being able to speak of our desire - without fear, without penalty, and on the way of being ourselves - is at the heart of being free. So I’m thrilled that wonderful book exists 👇🏽
To desire and to be desired is political. How we fuck and who we fuck is political. Always the goal: to be free. And so I’m thrilled that this book exists and honoured I’m among its contributors #ThisArabIsQueer
Among the poet Muriel Rukeyser’s assignments for her writing students was to begin a poem with the words “I could not say.” Acknowledging the taboo at the heart of a silence, can nudge expression free. Shaking desire free of taboos is revolutionary. feministgiant.com/p/essay-my-des…
Who among us is raised to desire freely? I could not say, for the longest time, that I desired men and women. I could not say, for the longest time, that being monogamous was suffocating me. But now I do. #ThisArabIsQueerfeministgiant.com/p/essay-the-de…

On Thursday: my flight from Montreal to Atlanta was. cancelled and rebooked for Friday. It was among approx 6,000 cancelled or delayed flights into/out of the U.S.
On Friday: my rebooked flight was cancelled again. It was among the approx 3,300 cancelled flights into/out of U.S.
Send calm and relaxation...
Three weeks ago, I almost missed my flight out of Dublin because of long lines at the airport.
This past Wednesday, I went to the airport in Amsterdam about 4 hours before departure time so that I don't miss my flight.
Returning home later today from Amsterdam, where I gave a lecture on sexual liberation & bodily autonomy.
I told the audience I came with a warning from their future: the end of #RoeVWade will affect the entire world. It will embolden theocrats globally.
I'm so fucking enraged.
I said this when Trump was elected and I am saying it again as #RoeVWade is about to be overturned:
U.S. feminism has failed.
The same arrogance and naiveté that made so many white Americans think Trump would never become president is that same arrogance and naiveté that made so many think "it would never happen here" about abortion bans as well. #RoeVWade
In 1996, I had an “illegal” abortion in Egypt and in 2000 I had a “legal” abortion in the US. I share my stories because I know how long it took me to share them and how many others need to hear them (as I did). #OurAbortionStories
I was not raped. I was not sick. The pregnancies did not threaten my life. I did not already have children. I just did not want to be pregnant. I did not want to have a child. And so I had two abortions. feministgiant.com/p/abortion-is-…#OurAbortionStories
When abortion is “illegal,” it does not make it rare nor eradicate it. It makes it dangerous and often deadly for the poorest and most vulnerable people who can get pregnant. I could afford the doctor’s fee for getting a safe, “illegal” abortion. #OurAbortionStories
I put inverted commas around "illegal" and "legal" when I write about my two abortions because the State--and the Supreme Court--can fuck off with its opinions about what I can/can't do with my uterus. That control belongs to me.
That necessary disrespect of unjust laws was at the core of #TheJanes, a clandestine network of women who provided 11,000 safe, affordable "illegal" abortions in Chicago in the 5yrs pre #RoeVWade. Watch the @HBO documentary about them feministgiant.com/p/essay-disres…
“I learned that sometimes you have to stand up to illegitimate authority and sometimes there are unjust laws that need to be challenged,” Heather Booth, of Jane
A Supreme Court stacked w/religious zealots tasked w/doing the bidding of right-wing conservatives deserves no respect
As white Christian theocrats prepare to destroy a right that most people in the U.S. support, what will most Americans do about abortion rights? In the years before #RoeVWade, an underground network of women called #TheJanes provided safe, affordable illegal abortions.
And in this essay, I look at how activists in Argentina, Mexico, Poland and Ireland fought abortion bans feministgiant.com/p/essay-the-se…
Christian zealots have used democracy to cut it at its knees by destroying the right to abortion–a right which most Americans support. Anyone who is not an able-bodied, white cisgender heterosexual man should fear what is to come. feministgiant.com/p/essay-the-ha…
