The abortion takes two days to complete. First, the woman’s cervix must be dilated slowly over 1-2 days using laminaria. Once her cervix is dilated, the evacuation process can begin.

Once the cervix has been stretched open, a tube attached to a suction instrument is placed inside the vagina. The amniotic fluid is suctioned out.

The child is too large to fit through the suction instrument, so it must be taken out in pieces.

The abortionist tries to find an arm or a leg to begin; once the abortionist has a firm grasp on one of the child’s limbs with the clamp, she will pull to break the limb from the body
