A thread on where #videogames are going and why #crypto / #NFTs WILL dominate them in the coming years.

20 yrs ago nearly no one saw the transformation that gaming would undergo. The change to the free-to-play model

For many, 20 yrs ago was when you were born so you likely don't understand the change that has taken place

Or you're older & @Farmville /@CandyCrushSaga was your 1st
Free-to-play gaming today is the dominate giant in the room that is gaming.

At 80% of all gaming revenue, F2P has taken the lion's share from traditional AAA gaming. And it isn't going to give it back.

That's 240 billion dollars from 2025 projected revenue of 300 billion.
This is to say that gaming has evolved in the past and will continue to do so.

The next stage of gaming evolution is Play-&-Earn or Play-&-Own or Play-2-Earn. Whatever the flavor of your verbiage is, gaming is going towards NFT / Crypto.
Think about it? People shifted in just 10 years from never gaming or paying $$$, to playing F2P.

How fast will people shift once quality games come out where they actually own their in-game items? Can sell them or keep them? Can make a profit off of all the time they've spent?
We already see this being successful to a point. Though running the high chance of being banned, accounts will sell for thousands of dollars just because of a single in-game item it has.

What happens when it is encouraged? It is seamless & user friendly?
To be fair, there are a few hurtles we must overcome as crypto/NFT game developers.

At @Scrapyard_Game we've IDed these and found solutions for all of them and more.

Here are a few of the hurtles we've IDed.
Hurtle #1
NFTs now are stupidly expensive and is the exact OPPOSITE of F2P gaming

As good as crypto/NFT gaming can be, you will NOT attract the masses with stupidly expensive PFPs

As I said, F2P isn't giving that 80% back, so we shouldn't try to change the flow of the river
What crypto/NFTs HAVE to do to is go with the flow. Period.
Yes, there are people out there willing to drop $$$ on in-game assets. But they are only willing to do so if it is a popular game. You can't have a popular game without the masses.
Hurtle #2
There isn't near enough mobile support for NFTs/crypto. (Here is the niche you were looking for.)

Why is this important?

Console gaming is projected to continue to decline by 9% per year
PC gaming is growing at 6% per year
Mobile gaming is growing at 25.6% per year🤯
Mobile growing at 25.6% per year is saying ALOT considering it is by far biggest section of gaming already!

Phones are considered a necessity, even if it costs $1000 for some. Whereas a Console or a Gaming PC is considered a luxury.
Hurtle #3
EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE is creating their own NFT project and "promising" a game that will change the world.

Sadly, they tripped over the first 2 Hurtles in going this route.

For some, this doesn't matter because they have such a massive war chest...@BoredApeYC
In selling NFTs for 100s/1000s & people then buying them on the secondary for even more, they are beholden to those who've invested in their project.

They've entered into the waters of trying to please those who've spent $$$ and F2P players.
This is a difficult balancing act that collapses most games, even the best of games fall to this at times.

Except with what they've done is tipped the scales even more with 10k PFPs worth $$$$.
It stands to reason that what they are doing will likely do 1 of 2 things

1. Collapse the floor price of their collection as the benefit doesn't justify the price.
2. Collapse their ecosystem as the collection overpowers the F2P players causing them to leave & collapse your game

Everyone is working on their own...despite all the "partnerships"

At @Scrapyard_Game we've found a way to implement multiple PFP collections from multiple chains into our games seamlessly/economically
Even projects that have funds for building only give out those funds if you are building something FOR THEM and only them. Again, they are beholden to their collections.

If you build something for multiple projects they aren't interested.

They have criteria that you must meet.
We've already implemented 5 projects and their secondary NFTs & they don't even know it yet.

Many more projects to come.

We of course will have our own collections, but they are on an equal playing field...ours are just cheaper and cooler looking via our Marvel/DC artist.
Hurtle #5
Nearly everyone are trying to be an NFT/crypto game first and an actual FUN game second

I say nearly everyone because I know that @Scrapyard_Game @NFArcade & @SlaaaptStudios are different
We're building our games without having sold a single NFT. Others exist I'm sure
The masses, not your 5k holders of 10k PFPs, are the key to a successful game.

Learn what they want and then build it for them. If you build it, they will come.
