Big CDSA Thread: Ballots have now been sent out for Chicago DSA's Officer Elections
I would like to point out a few political disagreements I have with Bread & Roses’s Mass Action slate and their platform
These are not personal grievances, but political questions
To begin, my definition of the word comrade includes those who differ in strategy and tactics from me. Our fates are all connected, whether we like each other on a personal level or not.
Chicago DSA has evolved my politics in countless ways - evolving my politics on Palestinian Solidarity, Abortion Rights, & Coalition Building to name a few.
Political disagreement, focused on the issues and done respectfully, makes us stronger - not weaker in my view.
If Mal & Emma win their races, the breakdown of the Officers will be:
4 Officers w/o a caucus
2 Officers from the Mass Action/Bread & Roses slate
1 Officer from Socialist Majority
To continue building and expanding our big tent in Chicago, I think this is a healthy compromise
Electing a Co-Chair who is a Latinx woman, born and raised in Chicago is necessary to begin & continue repairing trust with communities who have reasons (justified or not) to be skeptical of our chapter.
