The @ISDglobal and @guardian's @TownsendMark fail to address the substantive and longstanding controversy over the @OPCW Douma investigation as well as other alleged chemical weapon attacks, dismissing them instead as conspiracies/russian disinformation: @Tim_Hayward_@aaronjmate
4) Contrary to what is asserted in the @ISDglobal report, the issues raised by the OPCW whistleblowers have never been resolved. Instead, they and others have been subjected to smear campaigns and false allegations, as referred to in this statement: berlingroup21.org/key-communicat…
5) Also ignored by legacy media and aligned think tanks such as @ISDglobal is this statement from a senior PCW official:
6) Latest analysis of key issues surrounding the deaths of the 43 civilians at Douma can be read here and a fuller report is forthcoming: syriapropagandamedia.org/1200-2
11) None of these issues have yet been successfully challenged or indeed refuted. Instead, organisations such as @ISDglobal have sought to portray issues raised by @opcw scientists and others as conspiracies or Russian disinformation but without interrogating *any* of the them.
12) It should go without saying that such an approach is irrational and fails to meet normal scholarly standards of debate and analysis. More seriously, the smearing of those raising legitimate questions prevents the truth about how these civilians died from being known:
13) The use of *deeply* problematic terms such as 'conspiracy theory' and the presumption that questions or claims that contradict US/UK official narratives must be 'disinformation', Russian or otherwise, reflect a wider malaise in our democracies. propagandainfocus.com/the-conspiracy…
14) Rational debate and healthy dissent has given way to smearing, censorship and, as we see with Julian Assange, aggressive and brutal suppression of truth tellers. @ISDglobal, @guardian, @TownsendMark and @jasmineelgamal are contributing to that malaise.
Legacy media columnists such as @GeorgeMonbiot and @OliverKamm have cheered on and participated in smear campaigns targeting journalists and academics researching illegal activities by the US and UK during the war in Syria. They are participating in the cover up of warcrimes.
The analysis by @James__Harkin sheds little light. Some points to keep in mind: A toxicology consultation with NATO experts ruled out chlorine as having caused the deaths of the 43 civilians; this conclusion was removed from the final report without explanation. @ClarkeMicah
2) @Dalatrm claims hospital scenes were staged and these are reported to have occurred (circa 7pm) the same time as the alleged attack that supposedly killed these civilians in an apartment block (Location 2):
For anyone still harbouring illusions about democracy in the UK, the decision to extradite Assange to the US represents confirmation that it is an authoritarian and profoundly corrupt state, @DanielFooksArt@SarcasmStardust@StellaMoris1
1) It has rewarded Blair with a knighthood even though his involvement in initiating illegal wars is beyond doubt. Here he is plotting, just weeks after the 9/11 event, with the US president as to when to attack Iraq, Syria and Iran
2) And while Blair was plotting wars of aggression with the US president, he was using propaganda, repeated by the co-opted legacy media, to mislead the British public into believing he would cure the world of famine and hunger. @BernieSpofforth@medialens@thecoastguy
As we await Assange's fate, this interview provides a snapshot of Contemporary propaganda: targeting independent media, smearing and threatening academics and critical voices, and McCarthyite accusations of being Russian propagandists. This is destroying democracy. @Tim_Hayward_
Apparently @paulmasonnews is after me and my colleagues - ´the far left rogue academics is who I’m after’. I assume the problem is that we research UK foreign policy and propaganda (especially the @opcw Douma issue). @medialen@VanessaBeeley@timtron2020@ggreenwald
