Biggest take-away from the 1st year of med school is that our system is so broken/corrupt, that I'm not sure I want to practice clinical med in this country. Policy, consulting, and foreign work all seem much more appealing with less cognitive dissonance. #MedicareForAll
Training seems absolutely extractive & abusive. many in the field are not aware / are not doing enough to address the needs of resource deprived communities. Patients are not "consumers" and their health is not a product that should be bought/sold. Incrementalism is king.
Fundamentally this country treats healthcare like a business beholden to the whims of capitalistic greed instead of a basic right and public service. It's disgusting, cruel, and fiscally insane and I will not make peace with it.
I will not be silent, nor will I be complicit. Money may be your god, but it surely is not mine.
