The traders' favourite show, Crisis, in Antwerp, has been cancelled. "We sadly have to announce that we are unable to organise Crisis 2022 in the current format. Rising costs, lesser availability of volunteers and the announcement of restrictions already on the table for pandemic
...measures later in '22 have made it a far to big financial risk for us to carry trough with the known format, hence the cancellation as organizing this can't have us risk our club finances
More updates and some good news to follow later,
Team TSoA."
A real shame. Crisis is one of the best wargames shows on the circuit, and hugely popular with many of us UK traders as it's like a weekend Citybreak with a tradeshow and a party built in. Brexit made it really difficult to trade there, and Covid only exacerbated problems.
How we make cheap, super-lightweight, strong gaming boards: A Thread.
1) Buy a cheap "egg box" style door - typically 3mm ply skinned over a card honeycomb. Cut to required size (here we made 2' squares) - jigsaw will do the job, we used a tablesaw. You're left with edges like:
2) Cut strips of MDF of the same height as the gap between ply skins. Fix with wood glue top/bottom to fill all your edges flush and to reconstitute your "solid" box. Repeat for all sides.
3) Repeat till you've used all of the door/made your reqd # of tiles...
We "cheated" and used a biscuit jointer to make our boards all fit together. Not necessary for home builds, but this was for a participatory display game so we wanted it to hold up to hordes of Salute gamers... 6x10' total area.
