Report from the BBC on Russian volunteers in Ukraine. They say volunteers can either sign a contract with the Russian military, with Rosgvardia in Chechnya, with LNR/DNR forces (less common because the pay is worse), or join Wagner.
bbc.global.ssl.fastly.net/russian/featur…
The BBC says that volunteer units are taking part in fighting in some of the most kinetic areas in Ukraine and volunteers generally receive 3-7 days of training. One of the volunteers interviewed said there was no training in tactics and that many volunteers are over 45. 2/
Volunteers who join Rosgvardia in Chechnya were provided better training at the Spetsnaz University in Gudermes and signed 3-month contracts. The Rosgvardia volunteer fought in Rubizhne and around Severodonetsk and said Ukrainian mortar and MLRS fire was effective. 3/
According to the BBC's sources, Wagner as well as volunteer MoD and Rosgvardia units are now Russia's primary assault forces in Ukraine. 4/
They identified at least 155 Russian volunteers who have been killed in Ukraine. Of these 155, 57% of them were 40 years old or older and 25% are over 50 years old or older. 5/
One of the main points is that the MoD is offering a sizeable paycheck for 3 months contracts and, apparently, are offering to help pay off loans or debt. Volunteers in Nizhnekamsk are being offered 200k rubles a month, which is 5 times the average monthly salary for the city. 6/

Ukrainian TB2 UCAV footage showing two missile strikes reportedly on the Russian Vasily Bekh rescue ship that was carrying a Tor-M2KM air defense system that was headed to Snake Island.
t.me/dvish_alive/15…
Given the slow speed of the munitions, these were likely MAM-L launched from TB2 and not anti-ship missiles unless the video was slowed down. 3/

Rosgvardia’s elite 604th Special Purpose Center’s Vityaz unit is reportedly allowing volunteers to sign up for 3-month contracts to fight in Ukraine. Volunteers will go through a 3-week training plan before deploying.
t.me/sashakots/33722 Image
This is Rosgvardia's most elite unit. The fact that they're accepting and deploying volunteers after only three weeks of training demonstrates how serious the manpower issue is. It also shows that many Russian units will have a mix of professionals and reservists/volunteers. 2/
Keep in mind that the Vityaz unit sustained a number of KIA at the beginning of the war. 3/

Interesting interview with a Russian T-80BVM tanker who fought in Ukraine. He has positive things to say about the tank but criticized its Sosna-U thermal imager, noted its high fuel consumption, and said they never bring more than 10 shells at a time.
t.me/bmpd_cast/12010
They don't bring more shells because of the risk of the ammunition detonating after an anti-tank strike. He said they only had 3BM42 Mango APDSFS shells in the beginning and ran low on ammunition. He suggested it is difficult to effectively employ cannon-launched ATGMs. 2/
He notes how important it is for tanks to work with infantry to locate the enemy and noted that, while the T-80BVM's optics weren't great, the issue was less critical because they were facing modernized Soviet-era tanks. 3/

An interesting account of fighting for Dovhenke in the Izyum area on May 16. It says that a group of Russian volunteers were sent to reinforce a Russian motorized rifle company that only had 20 infantrymen, 1 tank, and 4 BMP-1AM.

Presumably, this was the 69th Covering Brigade. The account suggests there wasn't much briefing provided to the volunteers before advancing. The infantry advanced behind a BMP for cover, but the vehicle suddenly took a right while in the middle of a field leaving them exposed. 2/
This left 30 infantrymen/volunteers in a fire sack ambush. A volunteer with two Russian soldiers approached a building with Ukrainian soldiers but the BMP-1AM sent to support them began to fire on them instead of the Ukrainian soldiers. 3/
