Pressure for more #homes, but plans would need to cross boundaries.. @troy_planning asked to analyse and suggest #places for housing growth..
Decided to analyse 'completeness' of #places: which places have the amenities people need and which don't?...
'We believe this is about spatial justice - all communities should benefit', says Jon Herbert...
Became clear that people are willing to travel different distances to different facilities... this complicates things....
Facilities such as #play areas should be very close to home; others such as secondary schools, can be a bit further away...
This resulted in an awful lot of mapping! Different catchment areas for different facilities...
The mapping showed which #places are very 'complete' and which would benefit from investment... resulted in 'heat maps' of completeness..
But, also needed to overlay other data: #population density; index of multiple deprivation; broadband; etc...
'Busses have a very important role in connecting more complete #places with less complete places,' days Jon Herbert..
Our work identified potential locations for growth and development based on completeness...
This evidence is underpinning the emerging #Rochford Local Plan. Developers will be asked how their proposals will add to the completeness of places. Is the opposite of putting new development in poorly connected greenfield sites...
'This approach puts #people at the heart of new development,' says Jon Herbert.
