#Alaska Division of Elections has finished counting in the House Special Primary + released unofficial results. 1) Sarah Palin-R 2) Nick Begich-R 4) Mary Peltola-D
*3) Al Gross dropped out + WON'T appear on ballot.... but 5th place finisher Tara Sweeney won't advance. 1/3
Good explainer by @beckybohrerap about what the *bleep* is going on in #Alaska House race:
Al Gross withdrew in time to get off ballot, but # 5 Tara Sweeney won't bump up because withdrawal comes <64 days before the Aug. 16 special election. 2/3 adn.com/politics/2022/…
"Any party that disagrees with these decisions should file suit immediately."
So sayeth AK's Div of Elections Director about 5th place finisher (Tara Sweeney) not advancing to Special Elex ballot. 3/3

It will be fascinating to see how this goes in August because it's RANKED CHOICE VOTING! So we - and more importantly #Alaska voters - are learning about how to rank choices. If it is indeed 2 Rs + 1 D, including a candidate or 2 who bring out *strong* feelings in voters...👀 1/2
As I talk to Div of Elections officials in Alaska this month, they are trying to educate Alaska voters that they don't have to vote for ALL candidates. You don't rank ALL from best to worst, you rank the ones you WANT TO VOTE FOR. Leave the rest off. 2/2
.@Redistrict I'm looking forward to your analysis of how ranked choice voting with multiple candidates will factor in to expectations for the #Alaska race. And yours too @baseballot ! @jeremybowers + @lennybronner CALL ME we gotta talk this through
Watch for disputes + questions about whether 5th place finisher Tara Sweeney should advance to the 4-candidate ranked choice ballot for #Alaska's special House election after a top 4 contender dropped out. @lruskin with the latest for @alaskapublic: alaskapublic.org/2022/06/21/ala…

Top Republican in the House Kevin McCarthy last week voted to overturn the election results, even after the mob invaded the Capitol.
Yet today: "Let's be clear. Joe Biden will be sworn in as the President of the United States in one week because he won the election."
"Some say the riots were caused by antifa, there's absolutely no evidence of that. And conservatives should be the first to say so." - @GOPLeader
>@GOPLeader places blame on Trump: "The President bears responsibility for Wednesday's attack by mob rioters. He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding."
But McCarthy will not vote to impeach...
.@jameshohmann's podcast The Big Idea made me cry 2x in 30 minutes with today's episode + last Wednesday's. James shared @LennyMBernstein's story inside a Wisconsin hospital fighting Covid + @cathyjfree's story about a Utah man who's helping feed the hungry. Links in thread.
Inside a hospital as the coronavirus surges: Where will all the patients go? @LennyMBernstein embeds in a Wisconsin hospital to tell its stories, both resilient and heartbreaking. washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/11…
Nurse Marybeth Pichler sat with a dying Covid-19 patient. “'He talked about how he used to farm and how he had dairy cows...' After about 25 minutes, the patient took off the mask that provided him high-flow oxygen and soon passed away." -@LennyMBernsteinwashingtonpost.com/nation/2020/11…
LET'S TALK about @lisamurkowski and her NO proceedural vote on #Kavanaugh. I look forward to hearing more from the Senator in her own words. In the meantime, some thoughts. She is a Republican, make no mistake. But she's also a Republican not beholden to Party. 1
In 2010 Murkowski won a WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN (you try remembering how to spell M-U-R-K-O-W-S-K-I) against a right wing Republican who had primaried her. He had GOP $$ and establishment support (including in Senate) as the primary winner. She won. 2
Since then Murkowski handily won her 2016 election, including with mainstream GOP voters, and isn't up for reelection until 2022. That's a long runway. 3
