Those of us who watched the session yesterday were dumbfounded by the blithe acknowledgement of incompetence by the Irish senator who championed self ID. Report with choice quotes./ #WomenAreWatchingtelegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/…
"She said there was no system in place for ensuring people who officially changed their gender in Ireland were still called for potentially life-saving medical checks, such as breast screening or prostate exams, & revealed she was “embarrassed” by deficiencies in data collection"
"Senator Doherty also told a hearing of Holyrood’s equalities committee that Ireland had “probably about nine genders”, defended a push to rewrite legislation to refer to “pregnant people”, and insisted people other than women “can absolutely get pregnant”."
“Embarrassingly, none of these things were identified around the time of the enactment of the legislation. We couldn’t tell you how many pregnant people there could be in Ireland...We haven’t collected that data."
“We have no knowledge for our public services, such as prostate check, breast check, cervical check, none of those would include any of our new gender-registered people. That’s a glaring omission.”
“So learn by our mistakes. I’m not even sure we realised it is a mistake until you told me here today, which is a poor show.”
"Senator Doherty admitted that “a number of prisoners” had gained access to a women’s jail in Limerick after taking advantage of the Irish system only after they had been charged with a crime."
"She acknowledged there was a “real suspicion” that the prisoners had only changed their gender to get into a women’s jail and said it would be left to prison wardens to ensure other biologically female inmates would be kept safe."
Remember this person thinks self ID is good!

Worth remembering Ireland did not consider the rights of women in designing the legislation, but then, the State continue to evade responsibility for these horrors which were inflicted on women and children right up to the latter years of C20th irishtimes.com/news/social-af…
Is a barrister (who works in Scotland) really not accepting the decision of the highest court in the country?
Here Robin White admits that our JR ruling states sex is biological but Robin in supplementary evidence to @SP_EHRCJ, apparently, knows better./ parliament.scot/-/media/files/…
White also says the definition of GR in S7 EA2010 is ‘physiological or other aspects of sex’.
A Barrister should know this is a rather partial reading and biased reading of the Act (to say the least!) and is not a definition of sex./
If the committee believe White, however, they should be aware they are supporting these positions:
- Sex is determined by stereotypes (hair, pronouns, clothing) .
- GRC change legal sex, if EA is only concerned with legal sex, exclusion from SSS would not be lawful./
This is what happens to women in Malta @JoeFitzSNP
Will you take the word of these witnesses on international human rights, or are you going to get in experts who actually register what happens there? theguardian.com/world/2022/jun…
"The openly pro-choice regularly receive death threats in Malta; they are murderers and butchers and baby-killers, and should be lined up and shot. Those who have had abortions are sluts who should learn to “keep their legs closed”"
This interview with @NicolaSturgeon deserves some attention as it shows the extent to which the FM is in denial about popular opinion and the issues of her pet project. #No2selfID#WomenWontWheesht
Sturgeon’s claim that this is a minority concern is not borne out by all the polling on the subject which shows that while people will concur if asked general questions about supporting trans rights, they baulk when specifics are introduced.
Her characterisation of opposition as a “vocal minority” is dismissive, but she goes further, saying some “weaponise this...for reason of transphobia.” When Ministers or Ms Sturgeon are challenged to provide evidence of this or explain who they mean, they hide behind vagaries.
.@stellacreasy should be embarrassed by this inane and incomprehensible word salad. A transwoman is "an adult human female" and a person with a penis is woman if they say they are.
She is equating a horrible (and we don't discount it was violent, threatening and unacceptable) incident at Oxford to an abusive marriage with no clear exits of escape.
All women can & do suffer from male violence. Some are more trapped & we owe them the dignity of being heard.
We are sick & tired of hearing from traumatised, vulnerable women with no recourse to the corridors of power that they are called bigots for being frightened of men.
We are disgusted that Stella as a Labour politician is stigmatising the most vulnerable working class women.
