The @January6thCmte meets @ 3 PM ET for its 5th public hearing. We will hear illuminating testimony from witnesses about Trump's attempt to corrupt the Department of Justice as he pushed to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
MORE inside: dailykos.com/stories/2022/6… @dailykos
Testimony is expected to stretch for roughly two hours from a panel of three witnesses: former acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, former deputy acting attorney general Richard Donoghue, and Steven Engel, the former lead at the DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel.
The committee will share evidence that it says demonstrates how Trump pushed to have the department state publicly that there was widespread election fraud where there was none.
Live testimony and interviews from previously recorded depositions with witnesses like former Attorney General Bill Barr will also explore how Trump angled to have the department file lawsuits on his behalf so his failed fraud allegations would appear credible.
You may want to keep this handy as it most certainly will come up today:

Witness testimony and additional evidence presented today is expected to show how very little space there was between total chaos and true law and order at the DOJ.
I'll live-tweet once the hearing gets underway at 3PM ET. But in the meantime, catch up here: dailykos.com/stories/2022/6…

How about some key facts and figures relevant to today's @January6thCmte hearing unpacking former President Donald Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election?
The Senate Judiciary Committee interviewed today's witnesses (Rosen, Donoghue, Engel) when that cmte was investigating reports that Trump had pressured leadership at the DOJ to file legal briefs supporting baseless claims of election fraud.
There are 6 major findings.
Let's go.
#1: After interviewing Rosen, Donog. Engel, notes/correspondence & with help from Nat'l Archives and DOJ, the Sen Judic Cmte finds Trump "repeatedly" asked DOJ to endorse claims of voter fraud even though his own officials had long informed him the claims were not credible
#2: Trump's chief of staff Mark Meadows asked Rosen "multiple" times to violate rules between the WH and DOJ on communication and Meadows asked Rosen to have DOJ look into GA, NM, Dominion Voting Systems and the conspiracy theory peddled by Giuliani known as Italygate
(2a: Here's deputy AG Richard Donoghue reminding Jeffrey Clark - Trump's DOJ lackey - and other DOJ officials) in *November* 2020 what the policies are between DOJ/WH communications
#3: After mtg w/Trump, Jeffrey Clark leans on Rosen, Donog. to say DOJ investigating elec. fraud & inform swing state legislatures (GA 1st) to appoint Trump's fake electors, overriding certified vote
R,D refuse. Clark threatens to replace Rosen at Trump's behest.
#3a: After Rosen, Donoghue refused to go along w/Clark, there's a call between Trump and Rosen, then at least two mtgs at the WH before the mtg on Jan. 3, '21 where Rosen, Donoghue, Engel tell Trump they will resign if Clark replaces Rosen over this
#4: Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa; PA State Sen. Doug Mastriano, R; Trump atty Cleta Mitchell and others tied to the "Stop the Steal" movement helped Trump pressure DOJ to overturn election results, per Senate Judic Cmte investigation. Raffensperger pressured by Mitchell, Meadows
#5: Trump forced the resignation of US Atty BJ Pak in GA because he did not think Pak was doing enough to pump election fraud claims. With Pak out, Trump skipped over Pak's true successor, handpicks Bobby Christine. Trump once told Donoghue he thought Christine would help him.
#6: Fmr AG Barr "weakened" longstanding policy aimed at keeping DOJ out of election processes. Before and after the '20 election, Barr directed prosecutors "not to wait until after certification" to investigate Trump's fraud claims.
Barr declared fraud claims baseless on 12/1/20
The entire report from the Senate Judiciary Committee is available here.
While the 6 findings are far from the only pertinent details, this information underpins a lot of what we will hear today during the @January6thCmte hearing at 3pm ET: scribd.com/document/57945…

BREAKING: Judge Kelly in DC has agreed to continue the Proud Boys seditious conspiracy trial from August to December during a status hearing this afternoon at the federal courthouse in Washington.
He will issue a formal order later today, he said.
Proud Boys facing seditious conspiracy charges Dominic Pezzola, Zachary Rehl, Joseph Biggs, Ethan Nordean, wanted to delay their trial to December. DOJ agreed.
PB Ringleader Henry Tarrio, however, wanted it in August, saying no amount of time would give him an impartial jury.
The DOJ agreed to delay the trial from August to December because prosecutors felt it would be smarter to wait until the @January6thCmte goes public with its transcripts of witness depositions.

What do you even say anymore? I am at a loss as a woman in America. I just know if we don't get our act together to ensure that we are still a population of free people instead of subjects to christofascist rulers, we are in big trouble. 2016 to 2020 will look like a breeze.
Half the nation is on the cusp of losing the right to their own body but hey.
With a focus on the Trump elector scheme, the witnesses for tomorrow's @January6thCmte hearing include:
Rusty Bowers, frmr AZ House speaker (R)
GA Secy of State Brad Raffensperger (R)
Gabriel Sterling, GA secy of state COO (R)
Wandrea ArShaye Moss, frmr GA election worker
Bowers, who once endorsed Trump, is expected to testify about the pressure campaign he experienced via Trump and Rudy Giuliani and specifically a phone call he rec'd in Nov '20 where Bowers said Giuliani tried to have him stop the AZ certification.
Raffensperger is another R who rejected Trump's pressure campaign after the '20 election. Trump called Raff. on 1/2/21 asking him to "find" 11k+ votes in GA, the number he needed to beat Biden.
He's also testified to a special grand jury about Trump ⬇️ dailykos.com/stories/2022/6…
I give credit to my soil for the quality of all my blooms. I had a dry rocky garden and high acidity 2 years ago. Took some time to learn how to improve it and did by using organic soil builders. I feed my plants on a schedule and don't plant shade flowers in sun or vice versa.
The public finally sees deposition of John Eastman before the committee where he pleads the Fifth.
He did so more than 100 times, Aguilar says.
When cmte counsel asks him, in short, so you'll speak to the media about convos w/Trump but not to the cmte?
"Fifth," Eastman says.
Aguilar asks Jacob what would have happened if Trump was declared winner.
Jacob says who knows what would have happened in the streets.
Trump called Pence on the morning of Jan. 6 and now we are seeing video of family in the Oval on the morning.
Ivanka Trump describes the mood as loose and casual.
At 11:20AM. Trump was on the phone with Pence on Jan. 6.
Herschmann says he can only hear Trump speaking.
It got heated.
Ivanka Trump also describes it as heated.
No one was paying attention until it got louder
Nicholas Luna, another Trump staffer hears the call and he testifies that Trump called Pence a wimp or "you will be a wimp"
Trump calls Pence the "p-word" during the call, according to recorded witness deposition.
Pence got off the call, Jacob says and he would describe Pence as steely, determined and grim.
