The SCOTUS' Christianists: the states must decide whether pregnant women are state property.

Also SCOTUS Christianists: the six of us get to decide every state's gun laws. And we like the laws that existed to support the fugitive slave acts in the 18th and 19th centuries.
A reminder that the reason abortion was legal for white women in distress back then but otherwise illegal was the same reason we have a 2nd Amendment: slavery. Slave children were property, so aborting them or aiding in such was an economic crime. ldhi.library.cofc.edu/exhibits/show/…
And slavers needed guns to recapture runaway slaves and prevent slave rebellions. And southern planters didn't trust the nascent federal govenment to look after their human "property." npr.org/2021/06/02/100…
So when these "originalists" want to put the nation back to what it was in the 18th and 19th centuries, know that they are doing so because they care not a whit about the rights of anyone except land-owning, wealthy, right wing Christian* men. Read the #1619Project to learn more.

Welp. The Christianist majority on the SCOTUS has made it clear that they intend to return this county to its 18th century state and they are accomplishing their goal. We will now have free states for women, and states where women are returned to their 1700s status as property.
There will be underground railroads to get rape victims to free states, and whispered codes about how to help women in Gilead states that prosecute anyone who helps them try to leave their state to get the care they need. Oh and women locked in asylums if they do end a pregnancy.
LGBTQ people in Gilead states will live in fear and silence. They’ll be afraid to work as teachers. And red state teachers will be afraid to tell the truth about U.S. history lest they stray from the white nationalist line.

When you have an ultra right wing Christian* unaccountable SCOTUS majority for whom “originalism” means returning this country to roughly what it was in the 18th and 19th centuries, this is what you get. They genuinely mean to repeal the 20th century.
And their utter impunity is the direct result of socially moderate and liberal voters’ passivity and checked out disinterest in active civic participation, combined with right wing Christianist voters’ stolid determination to ALWAYS vote, even for Satan himself, to get their way.
One side views democracy as war while the other side — the actual majority — treats it as an accessory. This is how nations lose their democracies. Y’all have basically one last chance this year. You need AT LEAST 60 Democratic votes in the Senate; 62-64 to be safe-to reverse it.

This doesn't surprise me at all, and it's what I would expect from all of these men, who would -- to a man -- vote for Trump again, despite what they and their families have gone through. They'd do it all again. The only real question is: would they still refuse to break the law.
To understand this, you have to realize that for people like Rusty Bowers -- who is a fervently religious Christian (a Mormon to be precise -- the LDS church is among those that say the U.S. Constitution was inspired by God)... Trump is a means to an end. sltrib.com/opinion/2022/0…

Conservatives complain that "wokeness" makes them feel silenced online or in educational spaces or that it's annoying to have to remenber pronouns and be politically correct. Well the MAGA message is that you will BE silent. You'll do/think what they say or be PHYSICALLY menaced.
Fascists always start by crying victim, before morphing their constant self-pity into justifying a violent takeover of the society they can’t figure out how to fit into.

Lauren Boebert, like Maddy Cawthorn before her, is finding out what it looks like when the billionaires who hide behind racial/religious “populism” get the courts, legislatures and self-generating cult movement they need to get untaxed and deregulated don’t need her kind anymore.
This kind of “populism” has always been a convenient front for really rich people to watch the rabble burn the country fighting to get THEM lower taxes, more subsidies and less regulation. Pop quiz: what is the major legislation Trump signed in four years? The wall? 🤣🤣🤣

Only a deeply cold, cruel person could suggest that carrying a child, wanted or not, for nine months, with all that pregnancy does to your body and mind, giving birth — which kills more women in America than in other developed countries—then handing the baby over is the easy out.
The Republican Party is TRULY the party of cruelty. Indeed at this stage in that once great party’s decline, the cruelty IS the point.
