What can you do?
1. Mutual aid - donate to orgs that offer support for women seeking abortion esp those who need to travel to another state.
2. Make sure the ppl especially young ppl around you know that you are available to help confidentially if they need abortion care.
3. Attend peaceful protests happening across the country. Mobilizing empowers us & reminds us & them of our potential power.
4. Flood the offices of your state reps NOW (strategic visits, phone calls, texts, tweets) and tell them to oppose any state restrictions on abortion.
5. Organize at the local level with groups focused on strengthening the voice of progressive women and girls to advocate.
6. Make sure your D.A. knows that how you will vote in their next election if they participate in prosecuting women who seek abortion care or those who assist
7. If your neighboring state prohibits abortion, form groups who can help women from those states access travel & care in your state.
8. Register & vote in every election this year (primary, special, general) & for every office (sheriff, D.A., school board, House & Senate).
9. Express your alarm abt the Supreme Court's actions w/your representatives in Congress. They need to hear your concern and your expectations.
10. Decide today that you will never give up fighting for the country you want for yourself, your children, your community. Decide it. Then no matter what happens, you won't be swayed or paralyzed.
Resources abound. Here are examples. I am not intimately involved with any of these organizations so you will need to do your own deep research.
wrrap.org
ProChoice America prochoiceamerica.org
Planned Parenthood clinics still providing abortion.
plannedparenthood.org/abortion-access
Black Reproductive Justice Org.
blackrj.org
Sister Song
sistersong.net
Find a peaceful protest in your community. Many protests are beginning tonight. Here’s one resource. map.wewontgoback.com/?emci=429d1936…
Legal orgs. These I CAN vouch for:
National Women’s Law Center nwlc.org
Center for Reproductive Rights
reproductiverights.org
ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project
aclu.org/issues/reprodu…
That’s all I have today folks. Need to do my own mourning, supporting, donating, calling, marching, strategizing.

The reason you can’t think of a way out of this democratic free fall is b/c we need radical structural reform to the functioning of all 3 branches of govt in this country. Extremists have found the keys to gaming & hijacking the system - in Congress, the White House, & SCOTUS.
We have witnessed the vulnerability of the rules that govern each branch of govt. which have been weaponized to herd us toward minority rule. Do we have the boldness & courage to reset the rules of govt so that they serve democracy? Cause that’s the project. It begins w/power.
But if we hope to remain a democracy then we need to be prepared to fundamentally reset key aspects of how we’ve allowed our govt. to function (or malfunction)- Congress, the Presidency, SCOTUS. Healthy democracies learn & adjust. Can we? I don’t see how we make it any other way.

THREAD: Barr chuckling & distancing himself from Trump’s post-election “detachment from reality,” is really quite chilling. B/c Barr encouraged & abetted Trump’s obsession w/nonexistent voter fraud for months before the election. Here’s Barr in Sept 2020. washingtonpost.com/national-secur…
Here’s Barr in June 2020 saying that mail-in voting “opens the floodgates of fraud,” even though there is no credible evidence of substantial mail-in voter fraud. Barr voted by mail himself in 2012 & 2019. cbsnews.com/news/mail-in-v…
In July Barr attacked mail-in voting again, this time saying that foreign governments would themselves mail-in phony ballots. Again, mail-in voting has been used for decades w/o evidence or suggestion of this concern. cnn.com/2020/07/29/pol…

So tired of this fiction: “it was all so much better when we had “prayer in the schools.” Here we are in 1960. It’s 2 yrs before the Supreme Court strikes down public school-sponsored prayer. This is outside an elementary school in Rep. Scalise’s hometown of New Orleans. Image
It’s 1956 in Dallas. School-sponsored prayer is the norm in the South. Are those scriptures written on this car? Image
Still 1956. Now Clinton, Tennessee and these boys feel spiritually moved to express their racism. Image

I don’t have a lot of words today, except to say that there is a concerted effort right now to convince you that “nothing can be done.” It is designed to make you give in to the exhaustion of this moment. Don’t believe it. It’s a lie. We have power if we mobilize it.
Start by ensuring that those elected leaders who are standing in the way of passing sensible gun laws that would regulate access to weapons designed to literally liquefy human beings & destroy mass targets hear from you. Tell them what you want to see. Call them at 202-224-3121.
Here’s a list of the Senators who voted for and against the bill that would have regulated assault weapons in 2013. All Republicans voted nay. Some Dems too. Check the list. If they’re still in ofc, call them. 202-224-3121. senate.gov/legislative/LI…

Hello @unclelukereal1. Apparently I’m late to this. Given what I do, it’s important to me that I not allow the cynicism and lack of information suggested by your question & that I suspect many in our communities share, to go unchallenged. Your question is an opportunity. THREAD
There are elections for thousands of offices happening this year at the local, state & federal lvl. When we fail to vote in these elections, we cede power. My mantra to voters in our communities is #LeaveNoPowerOnTheTable Your seem to be in Florida, so I’ll use it as an example.
In Florida, scores of school boards are electing members. As you may be aware schools boards are currently engaged in fights focused on keeping students from learning Black history. So-called “anti-CRT” bans. news4jax.com/news/local/202…

No @AmyEGardner. This is incorrect. Just as in 2012 and in 2020, organizers, voting rights advocates, & individual voters marshal grit & determination, work long hours, share information & tactics, and work to overcome every obstacle mounted by voter suppression laws.
This is like saying the COVID pandemic did not create obstacles to voting b/c we saw the highest turnout ever in a presidential election in 2020. Activists, organizers & attys recruited thousands of new poll workers, distributed masks & gloves to hundreds of thousands…
worked to expand absentee voting opportunities, drop boxes & even sued USPS to get ballots delivered. And voters themselves stood in line for hours. Ppl are working as we speak to overcome the new laws. And provisions that threaten the integrity of the count remain to be tested.
