For those who rejoice: resist the temptation to over-simplify. Lean into the complexity. Ask the questions you were taught not to ask. Don't merely affirm pastors and leaders who say they are #ProLife. Insist they prove it with their actual, daily lives. (And do likewise.)
Align only with those who stand WITH and FOR those at the margins: the materially poor. The desperate. The terrified. Vote for those who work on behalf of the most overlooked (and hated) women in our country.
Remember, opposing the death penalty is #ProLife.
Regulating guns is #ProLife.
Working against structural racism is #ProLife.
Fighting homophobia and transphobia is #ProLife.
Quality, accessible, equal healthcare for ALL is #ProLife.
Being #ProLife is not about gaining power. It's about fighting for our neighbors tossed aside in the quest for power.
There is no checklist. No moral high ground. Truly loving our neighbors means dirty hands. Messy schedules. Tear-stained faces. Only, always empathy. We must be about the liberation and flourishing of ALL.
Rejoicers: proceed with caution. Walk with humility and tenderness. Spend time today thinking about how you will come to love and support someone near you who trembles at her future.
And if you're mourning, know you are not alone. May every one of us who claims the peace and power of Christ reorient our lives in your favor. 🖤
