..then Intensive Care Unit means “a service for patients with potentially recoverable conditions who can benefit from more detailed observation and invasive treatment than can safely be provided in general wards or high dependency areas.” 2/4
It is usually reserved for patients with potential or established organ failure. Patients should be referred by the most senior member of staff responsible for the patient—that is, a consultant. But what happened with Kaneez Befum on night of 20th June.. 3/6
.. her condition started deteriorating, her son Kamran Shaikh can see on the ventilator her BP falls to the level of 41, he rushed to Dr. Serena on duty in ICU and informed her. Despite she still had 30 minutes in change of her shift, she refused to see the patient. 4/6
While all the time on phone with somebody, she gave excuse to Kamran Shaikh son of Kaneez Begum that when new shift will join they will see your mother. After Kamran Shaikh cried and begged for emergency medical support for his mother Kaneez Begum only two nurses visited her. 5/7
Both nurses later confirmed that patient Kaneez Begum condition was very critical. During all this helpless Kamran Shaikh saw his mother died in his hands. Was this not a criminal negligence on the part of Dr. Sarena and #PAF hospital? Didn’t they murder Kaneez Begum? 6/8
How can a doctor in ICU use mobile phone, receive calls and staying on the call? Even if she only had 30 seconds left in changing her she cannot refuse to see a dying patient in ICU but here she had 30 minutes according to the story narrated by Shaikh Kamran. 7/9
Soon after the tragic death of Kaneez Fatima, hospital security and administrative staff rushed to the ICU, spoke to nurses who confirmed what Kamran Shaikh was saying and apparently like a typical cover up exercise asked Kamran Shaikh to write a complaint. 8/9
Hospital administration told Kamran Shaikh that in 5 days they will take action against Dr. Sarina and commander Waqas of #PAF hospital himself will invite him to show the report of action. Day 6th but no action conveyed. #PAF hospital charged more than 6 hundred thousand 9/10
Approximately 50,000 per day. Ironically our defence forces making money out of every business, if you go on Margalla road you will see Air university, school, hospital & even a marriage hall for making money but if you see the service then Kaneez Begum is just one example 10/10
