When we moved back from California to New York in 2021, it was for moments like these.

Three generations of Bloom men in one photo.

Cherish these moments. Don’t blink. It’s later than you think.
Harsh Truth: You'll only see your loved ones a few more times.

In May 2021, I had a conversation with a friend that changed my life.

I was talking about living in California—so far away from my parents in Boston—when my friend asked how often I saw them and how old they were...
I said I saw them about once per year, and that they were in their mid-60s.

He said, "Ok, so you'll see them 15 more times in your life."

Gut punch. It sounds insensitive—but it's just real.

Our time is finite, but we fail to recognize it until it's too late...
Later that month, we sold our house in California and moved to the East Coast to be closer to our parents.

It was the best decision I've ever made.

I'll never regret those tiny moments—of doing nothing in particular—that we'll get to spend together in the years ahead.
I wrote more about this and other harsh truths here…

You’ve been told that money is the only type of wealth.

This is a lie.

The 5 types of wealth you MUST understand:
Wealth is about more than money.

There are 5 types of wealth:
• Financial
• Social
• Physical
• Mental
• Time

But if you're not careful, the blind pursuit of financial wealth can rob you of the others.

Let’s walk through each to form a more comprehensive view of wealth:
Financial Wealth

This is the most commonly understood type of wealth.

It's generally what people mean when they say someone is wealthy.

Financial wealth is all about money—the money or financial assets that an individual has accumulated.

In his final Amazon shareholder letter, Jeff Bezos shared a powerful message on maintaining your distinctiveness.

THREAD: The fight against normalcy:
I recently read this thread on the dangers of minimalist design.

This line jumped out:

“Why does detail matter? Think of it as identity.”

It got me thinking:

What are the minimalist design decisions we’ve been consciously or unconsciously making with respect to ourselves?
What unique traits and differences have we scrubbed out of our lives in pursuit of blending in—in pursuit of being normal?

As I pondered this question, I couldn’t help but recall Jeff Bezos’s final letter to Amazon shareholders.

It had a profound impact on my thinking…

On the last Friday of every month, I do a self check-in.

I answer 3 questions—that’s it.

How it works (and why it might change your life):
There’s a concept in aviation called the 1-in-60 Rule.

I originally learned about it from my friend @Codie_Sanchez and was immediately drawn to the idea.

It says that a 1 degree error in heading will cause a plane to miss its target by 1 mile for every 60 miles flown.
This concept applies quite directly to your life and growth:

Tiny deviations from the optimal course are amplified by distance and time.

A small miss now creates a very large miss later.

This highlights the need for real-time course corrections and adjustments.

A friend asked me why I moved from one high tax state (California) to another (New York) instead of to a low tax state.

My answer:

Sacrificing being close to those I love for a bit more money is my definition of playing the wrong game.

You can’t take it with you when you go!
I also generally observe these tax savings are rarely “net” (i.e. true savings that are invested/compound).

A few reasons:

• General lifestyle creep from feeling richer
• Travel costs higher to see loved ones
• Childcare costs are higher without family nearby to help
If you’re earning $1M per year, you might save $100K per year by living in Florida vs. New York.

But if you’re far from family and loved ones, you might now have:

• $75K for childcare support
• $25K for travel for holidays, etc.

Viewing tax savings in isolation is a mistake.

On June 20, 1982, my parents got married.

Lakshmi Reddy & David Bloom—names representing the collision of worlds. An Indian woman from Bangalore and a white man from the Bronx.

It made no sense—to your friends or families.

But 40 years later, here we are.

Love conquers all.
Thank you for all you’ve done.

Most of all, thank you for setting an example of what love looks like.

I am forever grateful.

Happy Anniversary, Mom & Dad!
I recently wrote about my relationship with my parents—and why I moved back to the East Coast to be closer to them.

The piece may hold some truths that resonate for many of you. sahilbloom.substack.com/p/its-later-th…

Start your week with a win:

• Drink a big glass of water
• 1 minute of deep breathing
• 5 minutes of stretching/mobility
• 15 minutes of reading/writing
• Complete 1 task you’ve been dreading

Total Time: 30-45 minutes. Simple, effective.

Build that momentum!
This is *roughly* my daily morning routine—breathing is new add I’m trying.

I do glass of water with a scoop of AG1. Have done so for 10 years—my daily nutritional insurance + pro/prebiotic.

You can try it—& get free Vitamin D/travel packs—with my link: athleticgreens.com/sahil
If anyone has any great breath work practices that are quick and effective, please send them my way.

Need help and suggestions there.

As for mobility, I do:

• Spiderman stretch x5/side
• Squat to stand x10
• Yoga pushups x10
• Hip twisters x5/side
• Squeeze plank x30s
