1/ I woke up this morning to find an email from @JohnnyCTaylorJr, President and CEO of @SHRM. Predictably Johnny took a wishy-washy, shoot-for-the-middle stance. What I didn’t expect, however, was that he would bastardize the concepts and intents of diversity and tolerance. #SHRM

2/ Without abortion, women with ectopic pregnancies, a septic uterus and certain miscarriages will die. @JohnnyCTaylorJr treats the sentencing of these women to death as a “different perspective and worldview.” #SHRM

3/ The intents of diversity and tolerance are to celebrate the differences in people and cultures and let people be who they are, as well as include them in traditionally homogeneous spaces. #SHRM

4/ Johnny abuses these concepts to give cover to those who would strip rights away from over half the population and do them harm. @JohnnyCTaylorJr wants woman who have lost their bodily autonomy to be respectful, civil and empathetic toward those who wish them harm. #SHRM

5/ One wonders if @JohnnyCTaylorJr would feel the same way if instead of overturning the right to an abortion, the SC worked to overrule the 13th Amendment. #SHRM

6/ @JohnnyCTaylorJr aims to turn this discussion into an “agree to disagree” moment as though we were talking about favorite colors or the best place to get a good steak, rather than talking about sentencing some women to die. #SHRM

7/ @JohnnyCTaylorJr abuses the concept of kindness; asking women who have been stripped of bodily autonomy to be kind to those who agree with the stripping of their bodily autonomy. This is the language of abuse. #SHRM

8/ @JohnnyCTaylorJr is either unaware of or ignoring the paradox of tolerance, where tolerating intolerance leads to oppression. #SHRM

9/ @JohnnyCTaylorJr recognizes in some way how devastating the impact is to woman and has the gall to offer advice on how to deal with feelings. So brave for a person who refuses to take a stand. #SHRM

10/ @JohnnyCTaylorJr says that “we must set the example others will choose to follow.” Johnny’s example is that of a coward who refuses to take a stand for what is right and who hides behind the concepts of diversity and tolerance. I will not follow that example. #SHRM

11/ @JohnnyCTaylorJr ends by saying that #SHRM and HR professional values include kindness care to those who wish harm upon women. His false equivalence between women who are harmed vs. those who would do women harm is alarming.

12/ I am disgusted by @JohnnyCTaylorJr and @SHRM ‘s mealy-mouthed stance and the idea that people who have been stripped of rights need to be kind to those who champion the stripping of those rights.

13/ @JohnnyCTaylorJr and @SHRM had an opportunity to truly walk the talk and provide real leadership; they chose lip service and hollow gesturing instead.

14/ Will @JohnnyCTaylorJr and @SHRM also sit on the sidelines when the SC comes for contraception and gay marriage? What will it take for them to stand up and do what is right rather than do what is safe? #SHRM
