In #IL06 D vs D race,2nd term Rep. Sean Casten defeated 1st term Rep. Marie Newman for the Democratic nomination per AP. Newman defeated 8 term Rep. Dan Lipinski in #IL03 Democratic primary in March 2020 & won re-election, but chose to run in newly drawn #IL06 district this year.

“This morning, Senator Patrick Leahy will undergo surgery to repair a broken hip that he suffered as a result from a fall at his house in McLean, Virginia, Wednesday night” per his office.
“Having been born blind in one eye, the Senator has had a lifelong struggle with reduced depth perception. He has taken some remarkable dingers over the years but this one finally caught up with him.”
“His doctors determined that the best course of action would be to have surgery to repair his hip as soon as possible.  He is expected to make a full recovery and begin a healthy course of physical therapy immediately” per Senator Leahy’s office.

January 6th Committee has subpoenaed former Trump White House Counsel Pat Cipollone for deposition testimony as a part of their investigation into the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Jan. 6th Chair Thompson & Vice Chair Cheney: “The Select Committee’s investigation has revealed evidence that Mr. Cipollone repeatedly raised legal and other concerns about President Trump’s activities on January 6th and in the days that preceded.”
Thompson/Cheney: “While the Select Committee appreciates Mr. Cipollone’s earlier informal engagement with our investigation, the committee needs to hear from him on the record, as other former White House counsels have done in other congressional investigations.”
