JUST IN: Trump-allied Republicans hoped Michael Cassidy would defeat incumbent GOP Rep. Michael Guest, who voted to investigate January 6th, in the #MS03 GOP runoff.

Cassidy came out on top in the June 7 primary. But tonight, Guest crushed him 67%-33%.
mississippifreepress.org/25247/rep-gues…
As @NickJudin reports in this story tonight, Michael Cassidy had initially campaign on Medicare 4 All, five years of maternity leave and trillions in social spending.

But Cassidy disavowed those policies after coming out on top in the June 7 GOP primary.
mississippifreepress.org/25247/rep-gues…
Just before the election, Cassidy claimed Guest was “coordinating with Democrats to rig the run-off election this Tuesday."

He accused GOP Chairman David Carter of meeting with Democrats to encourage them to vote for Guest in the GOP runoff.

In the Nov. 8 general election, Rep. Guest will face Democratic candidate Shuwaski Young.

You can learn about @shuwaskiyoung's policy ideas with this MFP questionnaire he answered. @GuestCongress has not responded to our questionnaire.

NEW: A 12-year-old child victim of rape and incest should be forced to carry and birth her father's child, Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn says.

Even in such cases, he opposes abortion exceptions.

"Every life is valuable," Gunn said.

“What about the case of a 12-year-old girl molested by her father or uncle?” AP reporter @EWagsterPettus asked Gunn. “...Do you think the Legislature should revisit that?”

“Personally, no. I do not,” Gunn said. “I believe life begins at conception."

“So that 12-year-old child molested by her family members should carry that pregnancy to term?” asked Daily Journal reporter @TaylorVanceDJ.

“That is my personal belief. I believe life begins at conception,” Gunn said.

JUST IN: Mississippi Republicans nominated Brian Flowers, who accuses U.S. House Rep. Bennie Thompson of "treason," to run against him in #MS02.

Thompson is chair of the #January6thCommittee; Flowers claims the insurrectionists are "political prisoners."
mississippifreepress.org/25252/brian-fl…
Brian Flowers claims Rep. Bennie Thompson is providing “treasonous assistance” to support an "immigrant invasion."

Flowers says he will "work with the growing remnant of patriots ... to stop the invasion and the treason in a Constitutional manner.”
mississippifreepress.org/25252/brian-fl…
Even as Flowers says Rep. Bennie Thompson may be guilty of treason, he accuses him of “trying to intimidate American patriots by persecuting hundreds of protestors that are being held as political prisoners since approximately January 6, 2021.”

NEW: On his website, Mississippi GOP Congressional Candidate Michael Cassidy's platform called for Medicare For All, 5 years of paid maternity leave, $20,000 for newlyweds & $250-$500/month per child.

He disavowed all of it in an interview with @nickjudin.mississippifreepress.org/25171/gop-cand…
“That was a rough draft,” Cassidy said of the health care policy proposal that was on his campaign site for months. “To call it a plan of mine is a mischaracterization... It was never a plan, I never campaigned on it, and it was not Medicare For All.”
mississippifreepress.org/25171/gop-cand…
Cassidy’s website also said a “doctrine of equity has infected health systems across the nation, and some of these providers have refused to give treatment to white Americans simply due to their race.”

He says he thinks it was about COVID-19 treatments.
