A soft-rock station in Vancouver has been playing "Killing In the Name Of" by Rage Against the Machine for hours on a loop.

Whenever someone calls in for a request, they deny it and replay the Rage song again.

kissradio.ca
They play it a few times between requests.

There are no pauses between when one play ends and the next one begins so it just sounds like one long, long song.
Since finding out about this I have listened to "Killing In the Name Of" no fewer than eight times on Kiss 104.9's website.
Last person to make a request requested "Killing In the Name Of."

The host replied, "stick around - i don't know when we'll be able to play it but we will play it"

Then immediately launched into "Killing In the Name Of"
Ugh, it's "Killing In the Name" — no "of." My '90s alt rock credentials have been hereby revoked.
Someone just called in to request "Killing In the Name." The host said they were only playing vinyls and that he'd have to dig into the crate for it — then immediately began playing the song.
I can't stop listening

help
having memories of taking CDs out from the library because they used to cost $25 and who had the money for that
@guardian When I called the radio station the host wouldn't say why they were doing it.

So he asked me to ask him "worldly" questions

So I asked what he thought about abortion
@guardian He said he supported the majority opinion (80% of canadians are pro-choice) because it's healthcare
He refused to confirm whether it's a stunt or a protest.

But perhaps the real gift is that right now, even if it is a stunt, you can believe it's a protest.
omg the hosts have changed over.

Someone called in asking for Slayer.

the host: "Slayer? I hardly know her!"

then "Killing In the Name" started again
As a longtime punk rocker it feels appropriate that my most viral tweet is a rage against the machine song
Caller: I'd like to hear a song - I know this isn't your usual thing but can I hear "Killing In the Name"?

DJ: Oh let's see here.... You got it under that stack?

Killing in the name of HUHHHH
Do you think @ratm will give me tickets to their Ottawa @ottawabluesfest show for this thread?
I don't even care if this is stunting

Stop raining on my parade and start listening
Some of those that work forces
Are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces
Are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces
Are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces

Caller: I was wondering if, with everything going on in the world right now, I could get "Killing In the Name" by Rage Against the Machine?

DJs: You sure can. Can I get a HUHH?

Caller: HUHH.
Caller requests The Song.

DJs: How does it go?

Caller and DJs: dun nuh nuh duh nuh nuh

f you i won't do what you tell me

killing in the name of

duh nuh nuh
i had to step away to feed my cats

what'd i miss?
ok this thing might be stunting or it might be a real protest...

what do you WISH it was about?
Caller: Can I get the backstory?

DJ: what's YOUR backstory?

Caller: I enjoy a good statement. I like ice hockey and ice cream.

DJ: Ice hockey or ice cream, there can only be one

DUH
NUH

Ok but for real this station’s parent company @RogersMediaPR just fired some people so it could make a format change

Very un-RATM if you ask me
Perhaps @ratm will donate the royalties from this marathon to the people who lost their jobs
come on @kissradiohits tell us what this is all about

the people demand to know
ok let's do some trivia:

what's this song about?
Q2: Sometimes when performing live, singer Zack de la Rocha changes the lyrics from "Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses" to ___________ [WHAT'S THE PHRASE?]
this is probably the closest i'll ever get to being published in @RollingStone

rollingstone.com/music/music-ne…
Q3: According to @Billboard, how many #1 hits have RATM had in the US?

Bonus points for the name of their highest-charting song
ok what's the best RATM song?
I have to admit I'm partial to sleep now in the fire
ok we all like RATM....

but what would the MOST ANNOYING song be to do this with? you can choose any artist/band
mine's probably you spin me right round baby right round like a record baby
or maybe 1-800-3355-TMN
who here remembers play rec pause?
wait i found it
What's the first concert you ever saw (that you're not ashamed to admit)?
Or alternatively, what's the BEST concert you've been to?
I've been to thousands of shows so I don't have just one... but here are a few:

2006: Patti Smith @ CBGB, one of the last ever shows at the venue
2013: The Specials @ Metropolis in Montreal
Cock Sparrer @ Backstage Bar in Las Vegas (Punk Rock Bowling) - not sure of the year
The Bronx (my favourite band) at Double Door in Chicago — not sure of year. Found a bent iPhone on the floor after the show.
The Bronx at a skatepark in west Germany was also amazing - we lifted weights on the street outside the venue after the show
Motörhead at Olympia in Montreal right before Lemmy died was amazing but the loudest I ever saw them was at Metropolis (also in Montreal)
Other highlights include:

Angelic Upstarts @ Punk Rock Bowling

Rancid @ pretty much everywhere I’ve seen them

Wanda Jackson @ lion d’or, Montreal
Strangely tho I have never seen @RATM!

But @ottawabluesfest can fix that very easily 😉
You guys I’m getting really tired

I might have to

sleep now in the fire

(aka my bed)
Alright this is the end of this thread

Remember - for whatever reason they did this, it either meant something to you and/or brought you some joy in a dark time for humanity

I call that a win

(Don’t be mad at me if it was stunting)

Thanks for tuning in and…

HUNHHHHHHHH
Omfg it’s still playing
dang it I’ve been tagging the wrong RATM account this whole time @RATMofficial
It’s over

It was a format change (but there’s more to the story!!!! 🤐)

Now they’re playing no one knows by queens of the stone age
I think the most important takeaway is that we all wanted to believe it was a protest because we’re sick of how so many people in this world are treated

Music is cathartic

So is taking action

As the clash say, “anger can be power, you know that you can use it”
This one’s for you

ok i just called the radio station

and i made a request....
Hey good news everybody
