After the last 6 weeks building, I'm happy to finally launch dog-house.ie.
This is a tool to record and find derelict properties in towns, villages, and cities. The aim is to uncover these opportunities, and initiate their development into living spaces. 🧵...

Doghouse came about after I saw local activists @judesherry & @frank_oconnor posting derelict and vacant properties in their local community. I thought it would be helpful to make a place to aggregate and present these for all to see and uncover #DerelictIreland

The name comes from the phrase "in the doghouse" i.e. to be in a state of disgrace or disfavour. A lot like the housing situation for #GenerationRent both in Ireland & worldwide. The question asked by activists was simple - why are we wasting so many resources?

There is a dereliction and vacancy epidemic in Ireland. Just look at the latest census or walk down any street in the country. This represents a huge opportunity for home-makers, builders, craftspeople, and business owners to utilise and improve the resources already built 🔨🪚♻️

Doghouse inverts the traditional marketplace (supply first then demand) Instead it's as easy as 123.
1. Anyone can post opportunities (derelict/vacant properties)
2. People can browse and register interest in buying
3. Owners can monitor interest & claim for sale.

Doghouse is looking for any way we can help the supply side and initiate sales to owners who want to bring life to a community - whether that's building a family or a business. Owners can get in touch and let us know how we can help! 👋🫵🧩

In reality, the supply side won't come to the market until it is in their interest. Let's see how the Irish State deals with that.. Meanwhile, families are homeless, young workers have no stake in society or opportunity to build wealth, and many are leaving for better prospects.
