It's hard to put into words what it feels like to be a young person reading the news of today's SCOTUS decision. Our lives will be defined by a crisis that our government refuses to address.

But what does WV v. EPA mean and where do we go from here? 🧵
What did the Court decide today?

They sided with the fossil fuel industry to limit the EPA's ability to use the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gas emissions coming from power plants.

The EPA can still regulate emissions but its power is significantly reduced.
What does the WV vs EPA ruling mean for the climate?

It's a bad decision that will have serious consequences, but it's not the end. The @WhiteHouse and @TheDemocrats still have plenty of options to take action and fight for our generation
Make no mistake, this decision will mean an intensifying climate crisis. Fossil fuel billionaires have been plotting this for decades.

A Supreme Court that sides with the fossil fuel industry over the health and safety of its people is anti-life and beyond broken
What can Democratic Leadership do?

A lot! @POTUS needs to take executive action now to stop fossil fuel development and more directly regulate emissions.

Congress could pass legislation expanding the court and restoring the EPA's ability to push us to a 100% fossil-free future
What can we do?

The fossil fuel industry is hoping that after this ruling we will lose hope. We need to show them how wrong they are.

Let's keep organizing, building power in our communities, and demanding a #GreenNewDeal in our cities and states.
Take that first step tonight and join our panel on what comes next after the EPA ruling.

We will not stop fighting. Young people will organize and build an unstoppable movement for a Green New Deal. We still believe that one day, we will win.

Decisions like WV vs. EPA make it clear just how much the system is rigged against us.

A Supreme Court that sides with the fossil fuel industry over the health and safety of its people is anti-life and illegitimate.
This is the result of an organized, decades-long effort by the right. The Supreme Court was bought and paid for by GOP extremists.
As we figure out what this means for us, Biden must expand the court and use all of his executive authority to justly transition our country to 100% renewable energy.

The Democratic establishment continues to outcast young, BIPOC, and working-class people.

@KinaCollinsIL deserves this seat.
Danny Davis won because once again the establishment fought for a Dem who's missed over 1,000 votes instead of fighting alongside young people.

We need new leadership and they are doing everything in their power to keep that from happening. And it will cost them.
@RepDannyDavis, you won this election, now it’s time to take responsibility for how you show up in Congress. Stop missing votes.

We made it clear the first time @POTUS, you’re going to hear our demands, whether we’re inside or outside of the White House. You haven’t responded.

Now we’re back to make sure you understand us clearly: It’s #NoClimateNoDeal and No Compromises, No Excuses.

The American Rescue Plan - passed by Congress and signed by @JoeBiden will bring badly needed relief to millions of families and begin the long road of recovery from the pandemic.

But both the process and the end product reveal a lot about the state of American governance.
1) The ARP is not enough to meet the scale of the pandemic after nearly a year of government inaction, and was weakened by misguided attempts at bipartisanship.

We need to see continued expansions of our social safety net and further policies that benefit workers.
2) The pandemic has only exacerbated existing cracks in our economy.

Hopefully, many of the anti-poverty programs will be made permanent, creating a more comprehensive social safety net that catches people and prevents them from falling into poverty or homelessness.

The GOP can't even condemn the elements of their party that openly rejected the results of an election and incited a violent insurrection.

The time for bipartisanship has long passed, because the GOP has never wanted it.

Let's take a trip down memory lane.
In 2009, @BarackObama took office under rather similar conditions to @JoeBiden. The prior administration had completely failed to respond to a crisis. The economy was diving into the worst recession since the Great Depression.

How did Mitch and the GOP embrace "bipartisanship"?
“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president”

- Mitch

“We're going to do everything — and I mean everything we can do — to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”

- John Boehner (the GOP House Leader)

Good! Until the Republican Party deal with those in their own ranks who incited an attempted coup, who spread anti-semitic conspiracy theories, and who say Democratic politicians should be EXECUTED, The Democrats shouldn't even be reaching out to them.

npr.org/sections/coron…
One Republican member of Congress in particular peddles theories about the California wildfires being started by Jewish space lasers, says Democratic politicians should be executed, and thinks mass shootings like Parkland and Sandy Hook were staged.

Partisanship is an inevitable part of a two party system. But calling for the execution of your political rivals is anti-democratic.
