The project would include paved shoulders, reconstruction/widening of culverts etc.
The Highway starts its junction at NH-44 near Thoppur & connects Mechcheri, Mettur, Ammapettai, Nerinchipettai, Chittar Bhavani and terminates at Erode.

The total length of this NH is 93.984 km and it is the shortest route connecting NH-44 Thoppur–Salem section with NH-544 Salem– Coimbatore section and saves 22 km road length. Ultimately resulting in saving of travel time, fuel cost & environment.
This NH section is also important as it provides connectivity to commercial hubs of Chemplast, Madras Aluminium Factory and JSW steel factory besides providing connectivity to famous pilgrimage centre, Malai Madeswara Hills in the state of Karnataka.
