The Republican men making abortion a felony fully understand that women raising children are less likely to show up in the workplace, in politics, in any place where they might challenge the power of conservative men. /1
Overturning Roe v. Wade is designed to suppress women’s political, educational and professional agency. “Keep them barefoot and pregnant and in the kitchen” was never a joke. It’s been the political strategy of conservative men for generations. /2
White, male and christian supremacists all seek to guarantee that women's first and only role is to service men/reproduce. This agenda for controlling women is what Republicans are codifying into law in Texas, Louisiana and dozens of other states. #BlueWave2022 /3
Criminalizing abortion forces women to remain pregnant/give birth. Forcing women to remain pregnant against their will, is an act of violence on par with rape. Men who will justify the violence of forced pregnancy easily justify excusing rape. /4
Republican men are passing state laws allowing women to be interrogated by healthcare professionals, police, religious leaders, neighbors, etc about whether or not they are pregnant when women seek healthcare services or are planning to travel out of state. /5
All of which is designed to suppress women’s political, professional, and educational agency. If the Republican Party wins the Congress and White House they will toss out the filibuster and make abortion a felony with pregnant women required to register with law enforcement. /6
Our extremist SCOTUS has agreed to hear Moore v. Harper. If you don't know what the case is, it comes down to this. If the SCOTUS empowers the so-called independent state legislature theory, then those state legislatures will be picking our presidents. npr.org/2022/06/30/110… /7
For the love of god, if you care about women’s rights, about our most fundamental democratic institutions, get scared. Use that healthy fear to get active every day in crucial state and federal races between now and the midterms. We need a massive #BlueWave2022 or we’re sunk. /8
Easily half of American men are male supremacists. Some would be reactive to hear themselves described as such, but their inactivity on behalf of women's rights tells the true story of where they are. This means whomever you are, you can’t sit this out. /9
Folx are also reminding me that women convicted of a felony will not be allowed to vote. The Republican Party is paring away Democratic votes across all populations via gerrymandering, reducing voting locations, limiting early voting, requiring IDs, assigning election police./10
Passing this on: If we want a Blue Wave in November we need to expand the electorate. Not much time. These organizations do just that. Check out spreadthevote.org (helps obtain government issued photo IDs in certain states that require them). /11

There are countless reasons why overturning Roe v. Wade, making abortion a felony, is harming women. Here’s one more. America isn’t a safe place to be pregnant. In the United States, homocide is the top cause of maternal death. nature.com/articles/d4158… /1
From the article: “Pregnant women in the United States die by homicide more often than they die of pregnancy-related causes — and they’re frequently killed by a partner, according to a study published last month in Obstetrics & Gynecology1.” /2
“Researchers revealed this grim statistic by using death certificates to compare homicides and pregnancy-related deaths across the entire country for the first time.” /3
The men forcing pregnancy on women fully understand that women raising children are less likely to show up in the workplace, in politics, in any place where they can challenge the power of conservative white men.

Twice over the course of my life, women I was in a relationship with got unintentionally pregnant. In each case, these women chose to terminate their pregnancies. I was in support of those women’s decisions at the time and I’m still in support of them.
Millions of men have stories exactly like mine but they never share them, leaving women on their own to tell how abortion services helped them.
I’m not ashamed to say I am deeply grateful for the help safe reliable abortion services provided in my life.
Men who support forced pregnancy, support rape culture. That’s who these men are.
The modern GOP is a weaponized product of our dominance-based male supremacist culture of masculinity. Republican men debase, control, dominate and rape women as the central method for validating their masculinity. Overturning Roe v Wade will kill women. That’s a win for GOP men.
Woman and girls are now being forced to bring unwanted pregnancies to term. Forcing women to do so is an act of right wing extremist violence, equal to that of committing rape. If you can condone forced pregnancy, you can and will also condone rape as mens’ justified right.
Good luck universities in red states. There is no way in hell my child will attend college in a state where an unwanted pregnancy makes a women a criminal to be tracked, hounded, and arrested. #BlueWave2022
Red state universities are now simply too dangerous for women. That includes professors and staff.
From 2016: “Illinois still sends the most out-of-state students to Ohio State University, but New York is fast approaching.
Both states saw growth in enrolled students from a year ago, part of a record amount of out-of-state and international students flocking to the university.”
THREAD: Boys are bullied in dominance-based masculine culture to understand that dominance requires controlling all aspects of interactions. Blocking language like patriarchy, and by extension, the larger dialogues it gives rise to, is born out of fear of loss of power. /1
Men understand what it means to be bullied. It is the coin of the realm in dominance-based masculine culture. We know we are in a system that rewards men for creating power over others. When a man tells a woman he doesn’t want an open conversation about that, it’s a red flag /2
A man who refuses to talk about terms like patriarchy or misogyny wants to limit all conversations to spaces in which he has the advantage (power over). It’s not about “truth.” Truth is the open honest exploration of what both parties define as relevant. It’s about power. /3
