The @KelloggsUKI junk food court victory is a *stonker*.
Industry efforts to overturn the whole basis of nutrition measurement drop-kicked into the stands by Mr Justice Linden.
I've never read a judgement like it.
Junk food industry shd be ashamed.
Here's a few highlights. 1/🧵
Par 234. "The public health case for the approach under the 2021 Regulations is compelling and I am quite satisfied that it is both proportionate and rationale."
Wow! I've never read such a ringing endorsement of Govt policy from Benches. Junk food industry shd take note.
2/8
Par 231. Judge says they "do not come close to showing that it is disproportionate or irrational to apply the underlying approach of the NPM to breakfast cereals."
Unusually strong language from the Judge.
Big endorsement for NPM regime.
Junk industry should take note.
3/8
Par 233. Judge rightly points out that impact of measures will lead to reformulation with less sugar, which, "correlates with what the Government is trying to achieve .... reducing sales of breakfast cereals which are HFSS".
Yup. That's the whole point of the measures! 🎯
4/8
Par 224. Judge says the suggestion that Frosties should not be regarded as a less healthy product because of the nutritional value of the milk .. is surprising".
"SURPRISING"!?
That's Judge-speak for "total rubbish".
Ouch!
Do lawyers give refunds?🔥🔥
5/8
Par 200. Eviscerating on @KelloggsUKI failure to engage on these points over 10yrs policy-making.
"The fact that Kellogg came forward at the eleventh hour, seeking to reopen decisions ... taken more than a decade earlier ... did not render those decisions irrational".
Ouch! 6/8
I could go on.
This was a aggressive attack on long-standing nutritional assessment regime, just when we're tackling junk kids food.
It utterly undermined @KelloggsUKI credibility. Answer is to reduce sugar in HFSS cereals, not judicial reviews. 💁
I am so glad they lost. 7/8
In the meantime, I really do urge friends at @10DowningStreet to be inspired by this moment, to reverse the delay and implement #JunkFood ad restrictions on 1 Jan 2023.
Not doing so will have severe ramifications for children’s health. #AdEnough#junkfood

A busy day ramping up the national effort to boost testing capacity for coronavirus and I am proud we have already had an impressive response from companies of all sizes to scale-up our diagnostics industry
Some of the UK’s top pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies are working together to share expertise and resources to help us achieve 100,000 tests a day by the end of April, with ambitions to go even further [2/6]
Hats off to pharma giants @AstraZeneca and @GSK which have teamed up with @Cambridge_Uni to set up a new testing lab and are providing expert advice on automation and robotics to support the government’s new national testing centres [3/6]
