So lots to unpack from #NHLJets news conference. New HC Rick Bowness said Barry Trotz would have been his first choice as well. Said prior to Barry making his decision, he had AC offers from a couple of other teams but wasn't interested in a rebuild.
Says he noticed there was something off with the Jets when Dallas played Wpg last season- because they had been a difficult team to play against in previous years. And returning to being that difficult opponent is what he is looking to establish in 2022-23.
Says at this stage of his life and career, he does not need to coach for the sake of coaching. But the Jets organization and the city of Wpg check off all the boxes.
Says he has already spoken to, or in most cases, has left messages for Jets players because of the long weekends on both sides of the border. Says he thinks as a result of what was said by the players during the (near) end of season media avails, the buy in has already begun.
As @WPGMurat was first to report, Scott Arniel is coming on board- as an Associate Coach. Arnie told @JimTothSports he was not interested in leaving Washington unless it was for a HC position and he had never prepared like he did for the Wpg job.
But he changed his mind when he found out it was Rick Bowness getting the job because of the long relationship between the two men. There is probably a lot more - but I've probably lost 95% of you by now.
I'll have more #NHLJets coverage from #NHL Draft Week in MTL.
