If we win all of the close Dem house races, we don't have to worry about the insane possibility of losing the house when it matters most. cookpolitical.com/ratings/house-…
These are the races as currently predicted. Predictions do not take into account large turnout for Dems, because one of the assumptions of polling is that Dems don't turn out in midterms.
One of those races - I just discovered - is in my state, #Maryland. A man that is on the right side of things, and deserves support.
SCOTUS and the EPA. EVERYONE IS MAD AT THE WRONG THING. A contrarian thread.
Before proceeding, I have been an environmentalist for a long, long time. I worked for Greenpeace. I have taught ecology and outdoor school for kids. I remember Gore's early warnings, and I have watched the climate change in real time.
And as a lawyer, I spend a lot of time reading statutes and I have done a lot of work for free for environmental groups. Both of these parts of me see things differently than a lot of others. And WV v. the EPA looks different to me than most.
Let's play this out for a second. If Trump had gone to the Capitol, practically every police asset would be tasked with protecting him, massively undermining an already weakened defense.
The rioters would have treated him as a God, and would have rallied to him, no matter what he ordered. Probably the Proud Boys and Oathkeepers expected him to come, and would have rallied to him.
We know - but the J6C has not yet discussed - that the militants had cached weapons in VA, awaiting some signal that never came. Trump's arrival would have been that signal. The rioters would have taken up firearms in addition to the spears and clubs.
I have had a couple of folks ask me about this question, since it is on @emptywheel's @MuellerSheWrote's minds and in fact I saw the same thing on CNN yesterday. I am sure the DOJ would like to have the depos, but I don't think it poses a risk for current prosecutions. I explain
As I discussed in the thread below, prosecutors must give all potentially exculpatory evidence to Defendants in sufficient time to allow for Defendant to prepare a defense for trial.
The DOJ manual also recommends that prosecutors give pretty much all evidence, whether asked or not, since that way they won't lose on appeal if it turns out they failed to give exculpatory evidence to the Defendant. justice.gov/jm/jm-9-5000-i…
Dear Chief Justice Roberts. Here is your press release concerning the Roe v. Wade leak in which you announced an investigation less than 24 hrs from the news story on the leak.
CJ Roberts you described the leak as a "betrayal of confidences" "intended to undermine the integrity of our operations" and "a singular and egregious breach of" trust. You announced an IMMEDIATE investigation by the Marshal of the Court.
Today there are numerous news stories (and official releases) demonstrating that Ginni Thomas was participating in a seditious conspiracy AND discussing SCOTUS internal debates with co-conspirators. NOW THAT'S A SINGULAR AND EGREGIOUS BREACH OF TRUST.
