like, in my brain it feels like the same level of comprehension I get out of reading portuguese as a spanish speaker, and about the same amount of effort expended with pattern-finding phonological cognates and figuring out which words I just won’t be able to read

it’s a significantly higher level of comprehension than I can get out of japanese as a reader of chinese, and in terms of similar linguistic processes, it’s going more slowly than reading strong eye dialect of US english varieties but feels similar to that process

it was important to me that even though it’s outside the scope of my essay, I included a line about Native sovereignty and how supreme court decisions have infringed on it, bc “indigenous” applies to my cosmological frameworks too; I feel a solidarity while also being a settler

thinking about my place as a settler while being simultaneously excluded, de jure, from the USA, while the nation that is also nominally mine (the PRC) is on a colonial, genocidal quest that includes destruction of indigenous cultures in china as well as exploitation in africa…

…it’s a lot to think about and untangle, and it’s not so easy as saying that I don’t count as a settler because I’m not white, especially when you take into consideration recent patterns of AsAm settling of hawai‘i; it’s complex, overlapping spheres of context

someone could talk 24/7 about various issues offline with twitter as their one place to post cat pics and enjoy themself, I can’t see the full multitudes and facets of everyone’s lives and assume that they’re NOT talking about or doing the thing
