The frenzied atmosphere in Westminster these last 24 hours reminding me of the chaos in late June 2016 when practically the entire shadow cabinet abandoned ship. The most fun time to be a journalist in Millbank. What is it about Westminster and summer blockbusters?
Ok so I have some theories as to #StrangerThings, don’t look if you haven’t seen the finale
MacTheory 1. One is Eleven’s Dad. Papa wanted to grow One’s power but couldn’t control him and so made him impregnate Elle’s mum and experimented on her as seen in flashbacks. We’ll discover this when Vecna has a chance to actually kill Elle and finds he will not (#starwarsvibes)
MacTheory 2. The Upside Down is actually a manifestation of Elle’s imagination (like Wanda in wandavision) She is breathtakingly powerful and is messed up w PTSD. Explains why the UD only seems to consist of Hawkins - the only place Elle has ever known.
I think something important to note/consider and certainly something I would be putting to government and payroll MPs defending Johnson, is the issue with this line they keep trotting out - that there is a need to 'draw a line under this and move on/get back to business of govt'
There is a terminal issue that faces Johnson and his supporters and that is that he has lost the confidence of people around him who work with him, know things, and can damage him. They have demonstrated this intention with the many damaging leaks that have sparked bad headlines
Boris says that he wants to put an end to the 'media's favourite obsession' - that is shooting the messenger. The media is carrying news and scoops that have been handed to them by insiders in the govt who want to destabilise his government and even topple him.
Just got off the phone with parents who are apoplectic about the lack of Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Edinburgh (and Glasgow per relatives) - with no mass events taking place. Is this anti-Union politics from the govt? Or are Scots themselves not huge royalists? 🤔
