Introducing… the new Chancellor of the Exchequer. Here’s a bit about Nadhim Zahawi....🧵
He ‘banked £1.3million from an oil company while working as an MP, but has been able to keep his total second job earnings hidden due to a parliamentary loophole. 1/8
Mr Zahawi’s total earnings from Gulf Keystone Petroleum included a final £285,000 “settlement payment” after he first became a Government minister in 2018. 2/8
The new Chancellor was also co-chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kurdistan in 2015 when he landed the job with Gulf Keystone, which has an oil field in Kurdistan and which paid him more than £1,000 an hour.’ [14 Nov 2021, The Mirror] 3/8

The oil and gas business is setting our life support systems on fire, then pouring more fuel on the flames every time they are warned people are dying. 6/8
Government ministers like Nadhim Zahawi are licking the boot that’s keeping all of us crushed under the weight of fossil fuels. And now he’s Chancellor! 7/8
Sounds like a moment to help us resist, right?
