So first, stop writing cheap, disposable tweets.
Aim for content that is:

• Original
• Value-driven
When have something powerful, apply these principles to help it go wild.
1. Egoism:
People retweet to stroke their own egos.
By retweeting someone, they are effectively saying, "I'm smarter/wittier/more popular than you."
2. Altruism:
People retweet to help others.
They see a tweet that they think will be helpful or interesting to their followers, and they retweet it to share the love.
3. Social currency:
People retweet so their followers think that they are in-the-know.
4. Self-interest:
People retweet to further their own agendas.
They retweet content that furthers their agenda or expresses their controversial point of view.
5. Because they like it (and you):
People retweet because a tweet has a positive sentiment, and they like the person who posted it.
Good vibes are easy to retweet.
6. Because it changed their thinking:
People retweet after profound learning about a topic.
They retweet it in hopes of helping others expand their minds.
7. Entertainment:
People retweet because they find the tweet funny or exciting.
They want to share the laughter (or an eye-roll) with their followers.
8. Aesthetics:
People retweet because they like the visual.
Nicely-formatted text or a cleverly designed graphic is more likely to get retweeted than a dense plain text tweet.
9. Utility:
People retweet because reading the tweet is like buying a tool.
A tweet that provides valuable information or tips passes along valuable abilities to your followers.
10. Popularity:
People retweet because the tweet is popular.
Once a critical mass of likes/RTs happen, you're more and more likely to get retweeted.
11. Reciprocity:
People retweet because someone retweeted them in the past.
They want to return the favor and show their appreciation.
12. Authority:
People retweet because the tweet comes from a figure of authority.
A tweet from a famous person, a CEO, or a thought leader is more likely to get retweeted than one from a regular person.

13. Scarcity:
People retweet because the tweet is rare or exclusive.
A tweet with an offer for only a limited number of people is more likely to get retweeted because it's seen as something valuable to pass along quickly.
14. Newsjacking:

Incorporate a breaking news story or topic that's in the zeitgeist.
15. FOMO:
People retweet because they don't want others to miss out.
They see a tweet that they think is so good, friends would be upset to have missed it.
16. Intense Emotion:
People retweet because the tweet makes them feel strongly, good and bad.
A tweet that creates an extremely funny, sad, angering, or an aha! moment is more likely to inspire action.
17. Relevance:
People retweet because the tweet is relevant to them.
A tweet that is relevant to their interests, their location, or their current situation is more likely to get retweeted than one that isn't.
18. Quality:
People retweet because the tweet is high-quality.

RTs reflect the value of the original content back on the retweeter.
19. Engagement:
People retweet because the tweet asks a question, starts a conversation, or encourages engagement.
They want others to engage to make it more interesting.
