1/ ICYMI, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey announced this afternoon the nomination of the city's first Commissioner of Community Safety, Cedric Alexander @Calex_law.
Salary range: $295,000 to $350,000
Position oversees: Police, 911, Fire, Emergency Mgmt, Public Information ++.
2/
Recall, citizens voted against this move last fall. The council and mayor disregarded the people's voice and have now created another massive layer of bureaucracy in the city of Minneapolis.
3/ Of note in his comments at the press conference, Cedric Alexander not so subtly directed comments urging media to "help me."
Um, while you can count on mainstream #MNmedia to toe your line, media's job, theoretically, is to hold you accountable.
View:
4/ Cedric Alexander drilled down further on the assumption that media should "help" him by stating we all have a responsibility, "even the way public safety get[s] reported."
Mr. Alexander, we already HAVE a public safety reporting problem that lacks robustness & whole truth.
5/ As always, for 12 years now, you will be able to count on @CrimeWatchMpls to be your source for reporting truth and holding public officials accountable on crime and public safety - no matter who they are.
We do not and will not sugarcoat or pull punches.
6/ Prediction:
Minneapolis encryption and information throttling will be rapidly incoming.

Scoop - We're told that Mayor Jacob Frey plans to nominate current Commissioner of the MN Dept of Public Safety John Harrington to the new Public Safety Commissioner of Minneapolis.
.
Remember, Minneapolis voted last fall against creating a Dept of Public Safety, but Mayor Frey and the Council disregarded that.
Now they'll hire a commissioner at up to $350,000 (twice what Harrington makes in his state role).
.
And Minneapolis didn't even require a master's degree for the position.

Here's the video of the shots fired captured on video in #MplsDowntown overnight. You can see a gun pulled and shots fired while the sound of fireworks exploded in the background.
(We posted earlier, but the original video was removed).

Here's the full video of this shots fired incident which took place at the corner of 2nd and Chicago Ave in #DTMpls, right next to the @GuthrieTheater and @farmersktchn.
