The War Horse seeks a creative, energetic, and collaborative teammate to help us grow and
execute our programmatic scheduling for our Writers Program. The operations associate will be
an essential teammate tasked with planning and executing the scheduled 2022 Fall Writing
Seminar
...for Military Spouses. The right person for this role will have strong communication
skills, be a quick and creative problem solver, and have a knack for organization.

Responsibilities:
• Manage communication and coordination with the 2022 cohort of fellows and
VIPs/mentors, including travel arrangements, stipend payments, paperwork collection,
etc.
• Schedule and manage public-facing communication around the event.
• Coordinate with retreat-site staff for accommodations and event activities.
• Working closely with the director of operations, manage expenses and documentation to
support budget targets.
• Create and order collateral materials for fellows, staff, and supporters.
• Craft internal and external itineraries for the 5-day off-site retreat.
• Other tasks as assigned to ensure smooth execution of the seminar experience.
*This position requires travel to Rensselaerville, NY, from September 26, 2022, through October
1, 2022, to allow the operations associate to be on-site for the duration of the writing seminar.
Travel arrangements will be provided by The War Horse News.*

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Responsive and timely with completion of work products
• Experience with digital collaboration tools
• Ability to multitask and problem solve on the fly
• Organized and detail-oriented

COMPENSATION
This position is a three-month short-term contract ($4,000/mo, 15 July 2022 - 15 October 2022)
for an independent contractor to bring their skills and services to augment the execution of a
scheduled writing seminar.
A successful contract period has the potential for full-time salaried employment upon completion
to include an expansion of responsibilities including the continuation of the writing seminar
series along with additional program operational support.
