A few minutes ago we wrapped production on THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, closing a huge chapter of my life. I've worked in Vancouver almost nonstop since BLY MANOR in 2019. We made 4 series in 3 years, only taking a short break for the COVID lockdown in early 2020.
BLY MANOR, MIDNIGHT MASS, MIDNIGHT CLUB & HOUSE OF USHER were each profoundly challenging. Three of those shows were produced during the pandemic, amid ever-shifting safety protocols designed to keep our huge casts and crews safe.
It's been a privilege to work with some wonderful collaborators, actors, directors, storytellers, crew, family and friends for so long, over THIRTY-FOUR EPISODES of television – the most difficult and rewarding work of my life.
This isn’t closing the book entirely on the “Vancouver Era” of @intrepid, I’m sure we’ll be back, but it does feel like the end of a very specific chapter. The world has changed profoundly since BLY prep began, and so many of us went through so much together.
Oh, and they say “never meet your heroes”, but I’d add “unless your heroes are @MarkHamill and @LangenkampH", who are just as awesome as you hope and then some. It was a true delight to work with them both, and I really hope I’m fortunate enough to do so again.
Thank you, Vancouver, for being such a wonderful home for my entire family over these past years. My children practically grew up here. I’m sure I’ll see you soon. Until then, I wish you the best and thank you for everything. #thatsawrap

We're just a few weeks away from principal photography on THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, @intrepid's latest miniseries for @netflix. Today, Executive Producer Trevor Macy and I are elated to unveil the first wave of our cast.
This miniseries is a modern remix of some of the most iconic works of Edgar Allan Poe. To tell this epic tale of greed, horror, and tragedy, we have assembled the largest ensemble cast in the history of Intrepid Pictures.
We're going to announce the first wave right now, and the second wave tomorrow at 10am. So here we go...
I resolve to do everything in my power to protect the health and safety of others, and to modify my behavior in whatever ways necessary to do so, regardless of convenience.
I resolve to be more gentle, more patient, and above all kinder to the people I interact with, both in life and online. Everyone has had a very, very hard year.
That's a wrap on MIDNIGHT MASS. It has been an extraordinary, unprecedented production, and I cannot be prouder of this amazing cast and crew. In fact - and I do not say this lightly - this has been the best production experience of my career.
We began prepping this series in December, 2019. We were mere days away from shooting when the production was shut down in March 2020 because of the pandemic. We left our sets standing, dropped everything and frantically got our cast and crew to their homes as the lockdown began.
Kate and I were the last Americans from the show to leave Vancouver, and from the airplane window I could see our sets standing at Garry Point Park. They'd remain standing for months, at the mercy of the elements, and we had no idea when or if we'd be able to return.
I've gotten a lot of questions about ep 106 of @haunting . Netflix released an awesome little BTS video, but for those that want more information, here's a little thread: Episode 6 was part of the very first pitch for the show, promising an episode that would look like one shot.
Most of the camera choreography was actually included in the script itself, which meant that the draft for ep 6 was a really tough read with "camera pivots left/tracks right down left aisle, keeping Steven in MS profile" breaking up the dialog.
The sets for both Hill House and Shirley's Funeral Home were designed with episode 6 in mind. They were built on adjacent stages, and had to accommodate a hallway that would physically connect them so that Hugh could walk directly from the funeral home to Hill House in shot 1.
