The gov't of Sri Lanka has collapsed. The Dutch are blockading their highways, the Germans are joining them (and facing a very cold winter), inflation is roaring. The cause? The Green delusion. 1/
The Green delusion is pretty straightforward. Greenhouse gases cause global temperature to rise and must therefore be reduced. The cost/benefit calculation is never done, nor is there any attempt to connect emission reduction directly to temp. 2/
To question the science or economics of the Green delusion makes you a climate denier (and unfit for polite society or academic employment). To save the planet is justification enough for the looniest, most ineffective schemes. 3/
In Sri Lanka the importation of fertilizer was banned to make Sri Lanka a Green wonderland. In two years agricultural output sank around 50%. People were and are starving. The nation bankrupted itself in support of the Green delusion. 4/
The Dutch are rejecting their government's decision to reduce nitrous oxide emissions by closing farms and livestock operations. The Dutch are the second largest food exporters in the world. The Green delusion would simply destroy Dutch agriculture. 5/
Rampant inflation and energy shortages can both be traced to the Green delusion. Germany attempted to limit "green house gases" by switching to wind and solar backed by natural gas from Russia. Russian gas is barely flowing and the renewables never worked very well. 6/
In Canada, and other parts of the world, energy is being taxed for Green delusion reasons. Which adds costs at every step of production and distribution. Prices go up and inflation takes hold. 7/
Sadly, the political classes have taken the Green delusion to heart. Political argument is about how best to achieve emission reductions rather than about whether reducing emissions is actually worth doing. 8/
The Sri Lankans know the Green delusion has destroyed their country, the Dutch and the Germans know ill-considered Green policies are destroying their farms and their industries. 9/
People are waking up to the unjustified economic destruction baked into every policy driven by the Green delusion. They are fighting back. I just hope it is not too late. 10/

Hibernation Day #283 | A glorious day. Did a bit of gardening, drove out to driving range with youngest and sat and read in my shady "Smoking Grotto" where I was joined by this little guy. Sorry for pic quality. 1/ Image
A day spent gardening and reading and eating well and drinking rose on the deck overlooking a gentle sea is a good day. Summer, especially this summer, needs to be about stocking up the good days. Building Vit D and resilience. 2/
Doom scrolling and realizing that our politicians and PHOs have mislead us about the safety and efficacy of the jabs is fine, but it makes no progress. Watching a hummer, walking the dog, enjoying family, those build resilience and we are going to need a lot of that come Fall. 3/

50 or so years ago everyone agreed that we should work towards a cleaner environment. In 1998, tacked onto that goal was "preventing global warming". And we were told the way, and the only way to do that was to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 1/
Back in the early 1990's the idea of treating homosexuals equally and extending equal rights, including the right to marry, gained wide spread acceptance in the West. A decade later, transsexual rights were tacked on to gay rights. 2/
Around 2000 the drive for no racial discrimination and equality regardless of skin tone had the concept of "equity" added as a stretch goal. Non-discrimination was not enough, equity demanded positive outcomes. 3/

Hibernation Day #282 | Still not a perfect summer day. Fine, but a long way from perfect. Minimal interactions and very few masks. The fear is lifting. Case counts are up in the UK and France. But hospitalizations remain low. 1/
As has been noted all over the web, various jurisdictions have stopped reporting deaths/ICU visits/hospitalizations by vax status. Not surprising as the numbers turned sour in May if you were a jab enthusiast. When the bulk of the deaths are in the triple jabbed...2/
Time to stop reporting the stats. PHOs, pols and the legacy media are still pushing the booster, the second booster and now a jab every 9 months according to Canada's "Health" Minister. I don't think so. 3/

Hibernation Day #281 | Still waiting for that perfect summer day. Masks are nearly gone but people are now doing social distancing by rote. No action on ventilation or expanding ICU surge capacity. But Minister Dix is telling people to get boosted and boosted again. 1/
The news of the day was that Rogers and Fido went down. My phone was a brick. The internet was down in half of Canada. A lot of the response to COVID - work from home, Zoom meetings, online shopping and delivery - depended on there being the internet. 2/
Like many other systems we rely on, the internet has grown as a "nice to have" convenience. But it is now a must have for much of the economy and it was not designed to be "fail-safe". 3/

Hibernation Day #280 | So Boris has resigned, Abe is shot and likely dead, the Dutch are resisting hard, the Italians are in a state of revolt, Uruguay wants to know what's in the jabs (and Pfizer pulls out) and scumbucket Brown is out of the @CPC_HQ race..how's your day been 1/
We're still waiting for summer but my lovely Susan and I took Angus for a pleasing walk and looked at all the amazing gardens in South Oak Bay. People make a real effort and it pays off. 2/
Legacy media is pitching a third wave of Omicron for BC. Odd for summer, but, ok. At a guess, this is battle space prep for the re-introduction of masks with passports following in Fall. It is also about trying to keep the vax injuries under the radar. 3/

Hibernation Day #243 | Work, garden, buried a bird who flew into a window, watched the unsurprising HoC vote on travel restrictions, Lamented for the Nation. Mask count continues to fall. #NoVaccineMandates 1/
The whole edifice of masks, mandates, passports has slipped beneath the waves. The loonies in Ontario and Quebec are still hysterical but life goes on. You can now say ivermectin on Twitter without being banned. #NoVaccineMandates 2/
We had the great pleasure of a pod of orcas going by the house at 7:30 AM. (Which is why no pictures.) Four. We are incredibly lucky to have the ocean right out front. We also have a couple of sky cobras and their goslings wandering around the Islet. #NoVaccineMandates 3/
