#Match2023 After reviewing 20+ personal statements, here are some of the common suggestions to enhance your PS.

1) Uniqueness - find experiences, attributes that really highlight YOU and your journey. Talk about things that really make you stand out and a memorable PS.
2) Specificity - everyone is hardworking, team player, humble etc. Simply stating it has no meaning. Illustrate it with very specific examples from your life and experiences. Not only will this lead to uniqueness but again make you more memorable.
3) Concise - personal statements are not very lengthy so no need to fluff up your personal statements. Find powerful and meaningful sentences that illustrate the above and YOU.
4) Future - talk about what are you future goals and what you hope to accomplish from a residency program. Programs can gauge whether or not your goals will be met at their program. If you are much into rural medicine and they are big urban center, it wouldn't make much sense.
5) Creativity - be creative and have fun all while doing the above.

In my PS, I talked about chess and figuratively linked it to Medicine and got a lot of compliments and they were able to remember it for interviews.
Just remember, a personal statement gives a glimpse into who you really are and talks about your experiences and future goals. It doesn't necessarily ask you why you wanted to be a doctor. They know you wanted to be a doctor, that's why you have made it thus far!
Will post CV suggestions another post.

Start early and proof-read, get suggestions, and have fun with it!
