First of all, thanks to those who have been sharing different challenges and fears of dealing with the new system Workforce Australia. I haven’t been tweeting much but I’ve been reading the comments. I thought it would help if I offered some specific information in response.
First, the claims that you will receive suspensions while navigating a new system this month are wrong. There will be no suspensions this month for anyone using Workforce Australia, ParentsNext, Transition to Work and DES.
If your local Govt area has been declared flood impacted then there will be no demerits or suspensions for this month or next month.
Both @AmandaRishworth and I have “clean slated” participants. So if you were on the edge of receiving penalties they have been wiped. It’s a new system and a fresh start.
If you find the points system confusing just remember if you would prefer to keep doing the 20 applications a month that you used to do, this will still satisfy your points obligation.
I also changed the points system from the previous Govt settings to give more credit for things like getting a drivers licence, studying to be job ready and drug and alcohol counselling.
If someone would still prefer to deal directly with a provider rather than self manage with the app you can opt out and return to a provider.
Some people have raised specific problems with the app not working on older phones. I’ve asked the department to see what options can be made to work here given many people without work will be using older phones.
Some people have also raised specific concerns about individual providers. I’m watching this closely but I do need to be clear my discretion here is more limited. Shortly before caretaker the previous Govt signed contracts worth $7.1 billion.
Those contracts limit discretion but they don’t obliterate it. The changes I’ve gone through in the earlier parts of this thread were all possible within the current constraints.

The last time parliament sat for a fortnight the Libs spent the weekend lying to journalists claiming Labor was going to block a wage subsidy. So I thought I’d get in early before they start the next set of lies about the sitting fortnight that starts on Monday.
#auspol
The wage subsidy lie was particularly odd given we had originally called for wage subsidies at the start of the pandemic and the Liberal Government described them as very dangerous.
What ended up happening was the government didn’t even list the wage subsidy for debate and Labor had to move to bring the debate on, otherwise it wouldn’t have happened.

We’ve just found out why no one even knows whether they are even eligible for the so-called support package for arts and entertainment workers. The guidelines brief is still sitting on the Minister’s desk waiting for his signature.
A thread 👇🏼
This is a sector that was almost completely shut down by Government decisions in March. But for three months they insisted the sector - which employs hundreds of thousands of people - was getting enough support and didn’t need a rescue package.
That eventually became untenable. So after more than 100 days of dithering they finally announced a $250m support package on June 25.

Yesterday Christian Porter brought in new regs which mean a lot of the rights workers give up during this crisis will be permanently lost. He claims the change is time limited. The period where the employer can ask you is limited. But the loss of rights if you agree is permanent.
So normally an enterprise agreement can only be varied if the employer gives you seven days notice. This gives you time to seek advice from your union, a lawyer, consultant and other work colleagues. Yesterday he reduced the time from 7 days to one.
That means the employer can advise you of the change one day and then have the workplace vote on it the following day. And the vote can be by show of hands, it doesn’t have to be secret ballot.

Porter’s claims that Labor is opposed to the Job Keeper package is unhinged. We called for it for weeks while gov ruled it out. He’s now claiming we will vote against amendments that haven’t even been drafted yet. It’s hysterical, stupid, nonsense. #auspol @SkyNewsAust @abcnews
So late last night we receive draft legislation and the section amending the Fair Work Act is left blank. Then Christian Porter goes into the media today claiming Labor has made a decision on words that haven’t been written.
This is the second day in a row where Christian Porter’s behaviour has been appalling. Yesterday he claimed unions were supportive of the wage subsidy being used to run down leave because of an application in the FW Commission that started before the wage subsidy was announced.

I don’t often promote media releases which are getting stuck into me but I’m about to. First I’ll show you the release from David Littleproud describing today’s Murray Darling announcement as a “hoax”. Then I’ll explain why his claim is entirely wrong.
#auspol #mdbplan
First, here’s Minister Littleproud’s attempt to be mean. It isn’t really particularly mean. It’s more just wrong. Anyway here’s the release.
Next, here’s the announcement he’s referring to. In particular he’s taking issue with the part where Labor commits to returning to the original definition of socio economic in the plan.
