So tired of all the privileged abelism among so many (including scientists) during the pandemic. Just because you haven't been personally impacted doesn't mean others haven't. Consider that your experience is very different from others who don't enjoy the privileges you do. 🧵
I consider myself privileged too. Although I've been impacted, I know others who've been impacted far worse than me. And many have taken the time to share their very difficult experiences with me over the past few years. I can't even begin to articulate the horror of many of them
Some have lost parents, spouses, siblings. Some children. Some have seen their child become disabled, and been helpless to do anything for them. While watching 'scientists' question if their child's disabling illness is even real. Forget any hope for treatment.
Some have had to fight partners/spouses to protect their families because only one of them is well-informed about risks, and the other has swallowed disinformation that's so widespread - allowed to proliferate in the vacuum left by our incompetent public health agencies.
I've seen parents referred to social services by schools for wanting to protect children. Prosecuted & fined for keeping their child home because of continuous outbreaks and lack of mitigation measures in schools. Lack of reasonable adjustment for clinically vulnerable households
I've seen vaccination for children weaponised by domestic abusers to expert power over their spouse - facilitated by our completely flawed legal system. With children dragged through this - based on baseless disinformation from anti-vax groups.
I've seen the lives of so many children - especially children in clinically vulnerable households diminished. Because no one seems to care about protecting them, or their families. Acceptable collateral damage for the freedom of not wearing a mask & freedom to breathe shared air.
I've seen children in masks ostracised for wanting to protect themselves and there families- often by their own teachers and schools- people who should be protecting them. Supporting them. Having to exert their own independence & agency at such a young age.
I've seen parents have to give up jobs to home school children because their school environment was no longer safe. Some were forced to deregister because their only other option was to face prosecution.
I've seen young children bereaved - having to say goodbye to their parent who couldn't even hear them because they were on a ventilator in a coma.
I'm not even going to talk about my own experience here. Or my child's. But I want to explain why stuff like this makes me so angry. Because these are the groups that did this in the name of protecting children.
If my reaction is visceral, it's because this is personal. I can't even begin to understand how scientists or groups pretending to advocate for children can do this. To children. To families. Families like the ones I've seen struggling over the past 2 years. Families like mine.

Anyone find it strange how those concerned about the 'immunity gap' in children because of very low airborne disease to mitigations use this to argue against mitigations, rather than mitigations such as improved ventilation standards in schools - which would keep infections low?
Almost as if it isn't about protecting children, but about a 'mitigations are harmful' narrative...
Imagine when we found out many years ago that water sanitation prevented many enteric diseases - massively reducing hospitalisations and deaths, we went 'oh, but they're bad, because it'll all come back much worse once we stop cleaning the water!'?

I got my 2nd 'spring' booster today. Just an observation- if you're coming to a vaccine centre *please* wear a mask. It's one of the places where you will find a significant number of clinically vulnerable people at any point in time. Please at least do them this courtesy🧵
I'm very careful where I go indoors now. As far as possible, I don't go to indoor environments (outside my house) anymore. I do everything online. The two places I cannot avoid are vaccine centres and hospitals. And this is true for many other clinically vulnerable people.
So please take the extra step when you enter these areas, as there are disproportionately people at high risk, who have to be there. And with current infection rates, they are taking a risk to be there. Please at least try and minimise the risk for them if not for yourself.

there are significant harms for children from other factors and we mitigate them by making environments safer. Air quality measures, testing, masks, isolation do not stop normal life. 1 in 5 secondary school children being off sick from school - is that normal? Enough. Just stop.
Long COVID in children is harmful. Orphanhood in children in harmful. Educational disruption due to COVID is harmful. Hospitalisation and death is harmful (COVID causes more deaths than other vaccine preventable diseases in children). It's your rhetoric that's harming children.
I can't explain the harm organisations like HART, and the advocacy against mitigations for schools and children has done- our children have been mass infected because of this rhetoric. Enough is enough.

I've also seen these rather shocking screenshots. And after I publicly asked @NickCohen4 to respond to allegations that he had engaged in sexual misconduct with junior staff he wrote to me privately to express dismay. I asked him to clarify publicly, but he never did.🧵
It worries me a lot that @ObserverUK was made aware and seems to have done very little about this. I'm aware of at least two women who have alleged misconduct when they worked there. Here's a public statement from one of them:
And as I said above, I've also seen the screenshot Jo has described here- and his description is consistent with the exchange I've seen. I think it's very important for Nick and @ObserverUK to respond to these allegations.

We're seeing >1000 excess deaths above 'baseline' each wk (even when the 'baseline' includes 2021). The majority of these are excess deaths happening at home. A 3rd of these are from COVID-19. Do the rest reflect NHS pressures, long COVID impacts, or both? We need urgent answers.
Will the experts who were so focused on excess deaths when these were negative (due to mitigations, that we've since dropped) speak up now?
Important point here by @lisa_iannattone - about whether those who're dying at home are being tested for COVID-19.

I wonder what the mysterious illness causing this is 🤔
This is for all the experts who don't believe current long COVID numbers - will you believe them when they start impacting the economy (clue: they already are)?
If you don't believe numbers that are evidenced clearly from multiple sources, perhaps the problem isn't that the evidence isn't there- but that you can't bring yourself to believe it. Sadly, those who're suffering don't have a choice about whether to 'believe' it or not.
