Palestinians traveling home after the Eid holiday are facing massive humiliation & delays.
They are forced to go through Jordan & banned from airports here. Israeli humiliation at each turn.
Another example of the inhumane treatment we face when it comes to basic freedoms. 1/
Biden has “convinced” Israel to start keeping the border open 24 hours, but that doesn’t limit the humiliation we face.
The Israeli government should not be controlling our liberty to travel or to reach our homes. 2/6
Although it shouldn’t matter AT ALL, even Palestinians with American citizenship are forced to go through this harassment & apartheid while other Americans who are not Palestinians can avoid it. De Facto @JoeBiden allows Israel’s apartheid to extend to Americans. 3/6
The Israeli government is a masterful agent of propaganda & disinformation. They weaponize the fog of war to spread false information & sow confusion.
We see this in action now after the murder of @AJENews journalist Shireen.
They have a time tested playbook:
(Thread)
For a case study, look at the case of teenagers Nadim Nowara & Mohammad Salameh.
They were murdered in 2014. It was caught live on camera by @CNN.
IOF said its inquiry indicated that “no live bullets were fired” hinting someone else shot them, but that it will “investigate” 2/
So — Step 1: Lie and build doubt: “It couldn’t have been us…”, “we don’t know what happened”, “Palestinians lie.”
Israeli Gov spokespersons are masters at doing this. We saw it today from PM Bennet. Here is Michael Oren, former IDF spokesperson doing in it teenagers’ case.
Israeli Supreme Court's offer to #SheikhJarrah families can be summarized as: Accept & recognize that our violations of international law and our policies of apartheid are legitimate, and in return we will allow you to stay a bit longer in your homes. 1/2
The actual offer is: Israeli top court presents Palestinian residents of #SheikhJarrah a compromise that involves issuing them with “protected status” & prevent expulsion in the “coming years.”
The catch: They would have to pay a “rent fee” to the settler org Nahalat Shimon. 2/
In most self-respecting courts around the world, the goal is to achieve justice. In Israeli courts, when it comes to Palestinians, the whole aim is to legitimise injustice by any means necessary. 3/
Every year when the world commemorates the courage of Tank Man in China, I’m reminded of 14-year-old Tank Boy Fares Odeh, may he rest in power.
His bravery in the face of Israel/i tanks barging into Gaza deeply inspired my generation. It ripped the fear out of our hearts. (1/8)
Fares Odeh was born December 3 1985. He was 3 years older than I. When the 2nd intifada started, he was 14 years old. He lived in the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaz/a.
When his parents found out he was going out to protests, they grounded him, telling him not to leave his room. 2/
Fares’ mother said she went at least 50 times to the protests to find her son and pull him away, begging him not to risk his life and focus on school.
But Fares was a rebel with a cause. He wanted freedom. 3/
Not only does the platform censor Palestinian voices, it’s profiting from the sale of Israeli settlements built on stolen land, by allowing them to be marketed & sold on the platform. The international consensus is settlements are international crimes. 1/3
Adding insult to injury, I was targeted with these ads (likely bc I’ve been monitoring Israeli gov disinformation efforts on the platform).
Two settlements are built on land forcefully stolen from my grandparents.
I’d be shot if I even try visiting that land. 2/3
.@Facebook recently committed to a human rights policy based on the UNGPs. Allowing these ads, which means the platforms are profiting from war crimes, violates these policies & goes against policies banning selling stolen goods.
Dangerous suppression: Yesterday unknown actors engaged in a disinformation campaign targeting youth activist Tareq Khudeiri, leading to death threats against him.
Then the Palestinian Authority Security Forces arrested him — and now he is a political prisoner.(1/5)
The video was initially shared by a suspicious account of someone who claims they are an Israeli researcher; but spreads propaganda.
It pushed divisive claims that Tareq had chanted curse words at former President Arafat. Clear evidence shows he did not. 2/5
But this type of polarizing disinformation is a key tactic that ignites civil strife, and gives the PA’s oppressive security forces an excuse to target youth activists. 3/5
