Palestinians traveling home after the Eid holiday are facing massive humiliation & delays.
They are forced to go through Jordan & banned from airports here. Israeli humiliation at each turn.
Another example of the inhumane treatment we face when it comes to basic freedoms. 1/
Biden has “convinced” Israel to start keeping the border open 24 hours, but that doesn’t limit the humiliation we face.
The Israeli government should not be controlling our liberty to travel or to reach our homes. 2/6

The Israeli government is a masterful agent of propaganda & disinformation. They weaponize the fog of war to spread false information & sow confusion.
We see this in action now after the murder of @AJENews journalist Shireen.
They have a time tested playbook:
For a case study, look at the case of teenagers Nadim Nowara & Mohammad Salameh.
They were murdered in 2014. It was caught live on camera by @CNN.
IOF said its inquiry indicated that “no live bullets were fired” hinting someone else shot them, but that it will “investigate” 2/

Israeli Supreme Court's offer to #SheikhJarrah families can be summarized as: Accept & recognize that our violations of international law and our policies of apartheid are legitimate, and in return we will allow you to stay a bit longer in your homes. 1/2
The actual offer is: Israeli top court presents Palestinian residents of #SheikhJarrah a compromise that involves issuing them with “protected status” & prevent expulsion in the “coming years.”
The catch: They would have to pay a “rent fee” to the settler org Nahalat Shimon. 2/

Every year when the world commemorates the courage of Tank Man in China, I’m reminded of 14-year-old Tank Boy Fares Odeh, may he rest in power.
His bravery in the face of Israel/i tanks barging into Gaza deeply inspired my generation. It ripped the fear out of our hearts. (1/8)
Fares Odeh was born December 3 1985. He was 3 years older than I. When the 2nd intifada started, he was 14 years old. He lived in the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaz/a.
When his parents found out he was going out to protests, they grounded him, telling him not to leave his room. 2/
Not only does the platform censor Palestinian voices, it’s profiting from the sale of Israeli settlements built on stolen land, by allowing them to be marketed & sold on the platform. The international consensus is settlements are international crimes. 1/3
Adding insult to injury, I was targeted with these ads (likely bc I’ve been monitoring Israeli gov disinformation efforts on the platform).
Two settlements are built on land forcefully stolen from my grandparents.
I’d be shot if I even try visiting that land. 2/3

Dangerous suppression: Yesterday unknown actors engaged in a disinformation campaign targeting youth activist Tareq Khudeiri, leading to death threats against him.
Then the Palestinian Authority Security Forces arrested him — and now he is a political prisoner.(1/5)
The video was initially shared by a suspicious account of someone who claims they are an Israeli researcher; but spreads propaganda.
It pushed divisive claims that Tareq had chanted curse words at former President Arafat. Clear evidence shows he did not. 2/5

Palestinian youth, along with a broad range of civil society and other groups, are calling for a national strike on Tuesday across all of historical Palestine.
This is a significant development for multiple reasons. (Thread)
The youth’s initiative to refuse to allow this fragmentation to continue, if it succeeds, further builds up unity not seen in decades. 2/

Here’s one powerful thing the @AP can do in response to Israel’s destruction of its offices in #Gaza:
Mobilize the @APFactCheck team to start fact-checking statements made by the Israeli military & politicians. Almost none of Facebook’s US based fact-checking partners… (1/2)
….are engaging in fact-checking disinfo coming from the region, even though a majority of IL’s strat-comms revolves around maintaining a subset of Americans deeply misinformed about this conflict.
1. First, the article makes it seem like it is rare for the Israeli military to disinform the foreign press. But in fact there are numerous examples of the foreign press taking false Israeli statements and narratives and spreading them without fact-checking. The FP MUST…. 2/

I am getting this question a lot from different media outlets: What are Palestinians after, why are they protesting?
Let me try to simplify it in a way people around the world may be able to relate to.
Members of #Congress need to see this — men from the Israeli lynch mobs attacking Palestinians appear to be brandishing similar “Punisher”symbols to those the Proud Boys & others who attacked the US Capitol wore. @AOC@RashidaTlaib@IlhanMN@CoriBush 1/3
The ideology of ethno-nationalism is a threat to democracy and human dignity everywhere. We need to understand the context of attacks on Palestinians as an extension of these dangerous beliefs. 2/

It’s out of a movie: Israeli drone dropping tear gas canisters at protesters in El-Bireh, West Bank right now.
100s are in the streets protesting, but it is dystopian as we are besieged with modern weapon art.
These weapons will soon be sold to authoritarian regimes everywhere, as means to shut down popular protests. They experiment them on us. Another reason to impose sanctions on Israel: It’s not just about our freedom, it’s about making oppression unprofitable. #PalestineUnderAttack

It’s a dystopian movie: Israeli drone firing teargas canisters at protesters in El-Bireh in Palestine.
We’re besieged by walls and colonies trying to do our part in rising up for Jerusalem and Gaza.
It’s a brave act, but we are sitting ducks. (Thread) #PalestineUnderAttack
Soon these weapons will be sold to other authoritarian regimes across the world, to silence popular protests.
A reminder about why it’s key to sanction Israel, not just for Palestinian rights but to protect other vulnerable communities. 2/

A personal story about @btselem's findings on Israel being an #apartheid state: 12 years ago, as a young college student, I spent 6 months gathering evidence, travelling across #Palestine, documenting non-stop stories of injustice. This was for a huge academic study. 1/
A large group of highly respected South African, international, and Palestinian legal minds and scholars were leading the research project. It was under the umbrella of South Africa's well-respected Human Sciences Research Council @HSRCza 2/

LATEST from the @Avaaz team: (1) “Stop the Steal” group activity keeps growing on Facebook + so is the potential for offline harm after this election is called. Until Saturday, we had documented an additional 49 “Stop the Steal” groups with a combined membership of nearly 225K
(2) Of the groups we flagged for Facebook yesterday, most have seen an increase in members in the absence of broader action from Facebook. One of the public groups, “STS 2.0” was created just yesterday and has grown to over 85k members.

Wow - both Parler and NewsMax have jumped to the Top 5 App downloads this week, indicating a huge migration of mainly far-right, “StopTheSteal” users from @Facebook & @FoxNews.
We know EXACTLY why this is happening (& why it’s worrying) (thread) #Election2020#Protect2020
About two/three weeks ago, a heavy push began from influencers & FB pages, mainly on the right, of “coupe” and “voter fraud claims”, many of which our team has been monitoring and reporting on.

Unsubstantiated claims of “vote stealing” conspiracies, shared on Lou Dobbs, are being amplified on social media.
Now with 1 million views, no context labels. 1/6
Many claims in this video have been fact-checked, including by Facebook fact-checking partner @LeadStoriesCom, yet this video has garnered hundreds of thousands of views just today. 2/6

Since last night, we have seen escalating signals of disinformation efforts on @Facebook & @Twitter, mostly local & focused on the “Stop the Steal” angle.
We have reported it. How the platforms respond to this avalanche in the next few days will set the tone.. 1/4
...for the next months & years. Will millions of Americans not happy with the results be primed with lies that increase division, hate, & suspicion? Or will they get the facts, continuing to engage with politics they don’t like, but using fair, non-violent and honest means? 2/4

Why is @Facebook allowing a video encouraging violence against Dr. Fauci, spreading election misinformation, and pushing a civil war narrative to remain on the platform and be viewed by thousands? Doesn't this violate community standards? @andymstone@guyro 1/3
Facebook Live, and the misinformation amplifying ecosystem the platform has facilitated have already caused so much harm, but at this tense moment across the country, the platform has a responsibility to act urgently against such content. 2/3
