🧵📢The #antiracistcrafting Blanket Project has brought together a group of ppl from around the world to work as a community to help 2 charities (Project Okra in the US & The African Rainbow Family in the UK). This is gonna be your updates thread, so hold on to your butts. 1/
We've settled on a beautiful pattern. It's a granny square that suits all skill levels of crocheters. We've got our own color scheme, so you'll have to wait and see what we make! #antiracistcrafting 2/
After we gather all the squares, I'll stitch them together. Just imagine a project where each granny square is created w/ love by someone who cares abt justice, is being creative &taking back their time from yt supremacy & giving to marginalized folks in need. #antiracistcrafting
We'll be raffling off the blanket when we are done. Anyone can enter & who knows, you may win a gorgeous hand-crafted project for a few bucks! Your donation will still support Black trans ppl in the US & BIPOC/BAME LGBTQ+ ppl seeking asylum in the UK. Win/win #antiracistcrafting
And we're off & running. Look at a practice run granny square by the fab @MariaMoralPena
For all the 'when Boomers die out racism will not exist & things will be better" crowd.
Don't ignore which one is masked and what protection that provides the one who isn't.
Also someone pointed me to the OG! All power to @_jenniferdriver. ❤️✊🏾
For those saying the pic is doctored &/or the shirt is fake, use your brain. The messages in this pic say a lot abt racism, white feminism, & handmaidens of yt supremacy/patriarchy.
Some ppl are used to giving, &something in the psyche tells us (espec. BIWOC), we should feel guilty for looking after us. It's necessary tho. We're often at the forefront of racial/social justice battles. Anyway I crocheted my 1st ever #antiracistcrafting gift for me, a sweater.
Audre Lorde was not kidding when she said explained how self care is an act of warfare and resistance. Ww often misinterpret her words to just mean "spoil yourself" & go on vacay or the spa regularly. Lorde understood how Black women are stretched & how racial injustice affects
our mental health and wellbeing. Self care involves taking time to recharge to go back to battle. It serves a purpose other than pampering for the sake of pampering. It is necessary bc we are doing "the work" & ppl lean on us constantly. I mean constantly.
1st person singular of "they" can be traced back to a 14thc poem (c. 1350-60) called "William and the Werewolf." 1st composed in France in a 13thc romance named "Guillaume de Palerme."
No, "they" hasn't always been plural.
You're welcome. 1/
Rough translation: "then each man hurried, on horse & foot, hunting w/ hounds [through] all the high woods until THEY drew near to see the truth where William and his worthy dear spouse were lying."
With the singular "man" one would expect the pronoun "he" but "they" is used. 2/
Good news everyone, there's an open access critical edition of the medieval poem here. So you too can equip yourself to point out to hateful bigoted dolts that they aren't authorities on pronouns & don't know what they're talking about:
As promised, here’s your mashup analysis of @LilNasX’s “That’s What I Want” and the 10th-century Old English poem called “The Wanderer” in time for #Pride.
The Wanderer is an Old English poem from the 10th-century preserved in an Old English anthology called the “Exeter Book.” This compilation has lots of poems – maybe we’ll discuss some others some day. Check out the manuscript here starting at f. 76v: theexeterbook.exeter.ac.uk/viewer.html

The anonymous medieval poet wasted no time dropping beats, it’s a short poem comprising 115 lines of alliterative verse. It’s an elegy, a poem abt sadness loss, longing, and desire. 3/
