When this codd bottle emerged from the Thames mud, along with it emerged a pretty good story. If you're an Arsenal fan - read this thread. How can a codd bottle be related to Arsenal I hear you say! #mudlarking#arsenal
This Thames found bottle is embossed with G.P. Weaver of Plumstead. George Pike Weaver born in 1838 was a mineral water manufacturer & pub magnate & in 1890 he built Invicta Stadium, Arsenal's first real stadium from 1890 - 1893. Demolished by 1897 we set out to find what remains
In a small back garden of Plumstead (Dinesh's garden!), we found the original concrete terracing from over 130 years ago from the Invicta stadium where Arsenal used to play. Of course we took landlord George Pike Weaver's bottle & reunited him with the stadium he built in 1890
You can see the moment we found the original concrete terracing from Invicta stadium in Plumstead built by George Pike Weaver in 1890 here in this short clip
Who would have thought that a bottle submerged in the mud for over a century would lead us to find what remains of Arsenals first 19th century stadium. Thats the magic of mudlarking for you. It shines a light on forgotten stories. You can read my blog here tidelineart.com/tideline-art-b…
