Trying my hand at making one of these 🧵's. Here are five Avid @MediaComposer keyboard shortcuts you might not know... #postchat #avid
1. Loop Play In-to-Out
You can set an In Point and Out Point in Avid and just play that section by hitting the 6 key (top row #6, not the number pad #6). Did you know you can loop this playback? Hold the Opt (Mac) or Alt (Windows) key and hit the number 6.

2. Slow Down Fast Playback Speed w/o Stopping
Using J-K-L you can play backwards, pause, and play forwards. Hitting the J or L keys multiple times in a row will speed up your playback. Most people, like me, hit that L key twice and watch at double speed a lot of the time...

What if you want to go back to the normal speed? Do you hit the K key and then the L key? Don't. Hold Opt (Mac) or Alt (Windows) and hit the J key. This won't stop your playback and just reduce it down one level of speed. If you were at 3x speed it will drop it to 2x speed.
3. Move X Amount Again
You can use the number pad to move the time position indicator on your timeline. Ex: you type +1000 and hit the Enter key on the number pad to move forward 10 sec. Once you do this you don't need to type in the +1000 again to move another 10 sec.

Just hit the Enter key on the number pad again.
4. Double Zero Replacement
Sticking with the number pad, instead of typing +1000 you could type "+10.". The "." on the number pad represents "00". So if you want to go to the 1 hour mark (01:00:00:00) you can just type "1...Enter" instead of "1000000Enter".

5. Zoom Back
One of my fav shortcuts in Avid is "Zoom In To..." (Cmd/Ctrl+M) which allows you to pick an area to zoom in to. Once you do this instead of using Cmd/Ctrl+[ to zoom back out, you can use Cmd/Ctrl+J to go back to the exact view you just had before doing Cmd/Ctrl+M.
