If the best study we have (Hong Kong) says post-vax dose 2 myocarditis occurs in 1/2680 12-17 yo boys
& Nordic & French studies say myocarditis post moderna is 3.3-3.7x more common than pos Pfizer, that would give a post dose 2 moderna myo rate of 1/724-812 in 12-17 yo males 🧵
Why is the @US_FDA not concerned about this? Where is the risk-benefit calculation for this group? What evidence do we have healthy children, most of whom have been infected, should even get one dose? I have been asking this for well over a year now, but now... Moderna approved?
The @fda stated in May 2021 that the smallpox vaccine may have had a rate of subclinical myocarditis 60x higher than overt myocarditis and we still don't know what the subclinical rate is post mRNA vaccines! journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…
I've been doing so many interviews lately where people are asking me about this that I had to get all of this in one thread. Also because this is simple math the @fda should have done a long time ago.
Data from Ontario actually indicated a 5x greater risk of myo/pericarditis following Moderna in 18-24 year old males. Using the 1/2680 post dose 2 pfizer risk in 12-17yo males would give a 1/536 myo/pericarditis risk post dose 2 moderna in 12-17yo males jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

Yes, read the Nov article where Drs. Krause, Gruber & Offit talk about the risk of imprinting/less effective immune response w/continued boosting against old variant
We have 2 studies now showing boosted clear the virus more slowly than non-boosted 🧵

Many have been asking me about BA.5
my go-to sources are @MarinHHS & Denmark's @SSI_dk
BA.5 is becoming dominant but there is no evidence of increased hospitalization or death rate.
LIGHT blue (🔹)=hospitalizations FOR covid
LIGHT orange (☀️)=ICU admits FOR covid
Aren't rising
Both Denmark and Marin and using wastewater surveillance to monitor for outbreaks
Here you can see though testing has dropped significantly in Denmark (🟠)
RNA copies go up & down (🔵)
ICU admits "intensiv" (bright green🍈) have been stable
Marin uses wastewater from very specific areas to monitor for outbreaks.
The final analysis from the adjacent Fargo, ND K-12 districts, both with~12,000 students, is now available
🔵mask mandate
🟣masks optional
We observed no significant difference in covid case rates while the districts had differing OR the same mask policies researchsquare.com/article/rs-177…
Table 1 shows district policies & characteristics that could have impacted case rates
These districts were strikingly similar and our study benefited from a partial crossover design: FPS dropped mask mandates 1/17 & this should have shown us if there were major confounders
We (Neeraj Sood, @ifihadastick & Shannon Heick) are hoping to have this published in a peer reviewed journal. Please let us know if you see errors or have critique. Raw data are available here if you would like to repeat the analysis github.com/tracybethhoeg/…
🇨🇦Ontario reporting the highest rate of post vaccination myocarditis I've seen:
1/1287 (777/mill) in males 18-24 if they received Pfizer then Moderna within 30 days
Moderna >6x higher risk of myo than pfizer
This & the new study from France discussed 🧵 jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…
In Ontario, the post Pfizer myocarditis rate has been higher in 12-17 yos than 18-24 yos. Given Moderna has >6x higher risk of myo in Ontario, why would we in the US & approve Moderna for adolescents?🤔
& is @cdc really calling 1/1287 rare? 🤨 jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…
Pfizer-Moderna was also the combination that had the highest rate in the Nordic countries
Interestingly in the Nordic study, where countries have different dose interval policies, there was no clear correlation between dosing interval & myocarditis rates
I'd been looking forward to meeting Senator Pan. I think we both want the best for kids
Not sure "minimizer" applies to someone dedicated to learning the data & considering tradeoffs of continued testing. My take: we should follow Scandinavia's lead & drop school covid testing🧵
Here's my testimony (Part I) which I would love to discuss in detail w/Sen Pan & others (over coffee or a beer!) so we can work together to develop sensible policies for kids, who the data would suggest are lower risk from covid than he suggests. See👇
Here you can see form the source preprint, that even without separating out with vs from,
annually COVID-19 is the 9th leading cause of death in children medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
But beyond that, here @KelleyKga explains why the study using CDC’s NCHS is problematic. Here deaths are attributed to covid & given the ICD-10 U07.1 code if Covid is listed *anywhere* on the death certificate even when there are multiple caues of death covid-georgia.com/news/covid-vs-…
