We like to call her our Conference Queen: our Chief Marketing Officer Rhonda Spears-Bell opened our morning plenary as we hear the State of the Urban League. She reminded us of the millions who didn’t make it through the pandemic to keep in mind as we reunite this week. #NULCONF
We are proud to have @BankofAmerica as a conference sponsor, and Chief Administration Officer @DSteveBoland shares how BoA is helping Black communities, like dedicating $25M to 21 HBCUs and $25M to help improve health outcomes in communities of color. #NULCONF22
Our conference sponsor, @target, is committed to “ joy of everyday life and that includes joy for Black families,” says @LayshaWard, the company’s EVP and Chief External Engagement Officer. #NULCONF22
To show this, @target has created the Racial Equity Action and Change initiative. “This isn’t about making statements. It’s about listening, learning and co-creating solutions with partners like you.” -@LayshaWard#NULCONF22
It was a standing ovation for Brianna Woods, 17-year-old rising senior with @LouisvilleUL, who introduced our luminous President + CEO @MARCMORIAL, who delivers our “State of the Urban League” Address. #NULCONF22
And President @MARCMORIAL hits the stage and officially starts the 2022 Annual Conference. #NULCONF22
“We’ve gathered here to reflect upon and to refine our role in responding not only to the medical and economic crises wrought by the COVID pandemic, but to the rise of extremism and an unprecedented assault on democracy, civil liberties, and civil rights.” -@MARCMORIAL
“When we say the Urban League Fights for You, we have an outside game and an inside game. And if you think our outside game is effective, our inside game gets results.” -@MARCMORIAL#NULCONF22
“This is not your grandmother and grandfather’s Urban League. But we stand on the shoulders of our grandmothers and grandfathers to build a movement for our grandsons and granddaughters.” -@MARCMORIAL#NULCONF22
Conference sponsor @Target is building intergenartional wealth and jobs that will change the trajectory for black families and is committed to spending $2B with black-owned businesses.

While he was alive, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wasn’t seen as the sanitized, “safe” civil rights hero like he is today. #ReclaimMLK
In fact, he was viewed as so radical that the FBI had him under close surveillance and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover dubbed him the “most dangerous Negro in America.” #ReclaimMLK
A Harris Poll taken 2 years before #MLK’s assassination showed he had only a 27% favorable rating among whites at the time. King’s direct & unmasked message of an America refusing to live up to her promises of equality and justice for all agitated the majority of white Americans.
When I look at the failure of the US Congress to act, it is up to all of us to demand them to take action. Assault weapons were designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly. There is no reason that we have weapons of war on the streets of America. -@vp#NULCONF22
30% of Black households do not have access to Broadband. This made it more difficult for our communities in the height of the pandemic to register to vote, be able to be counted for the Census and sign up to get vaccinated. -@PROVERBSKIDS
Having internet access while churches were closed during the shutdown, “it made it easier to cheat on your church, too.” 🫣 @joitweets#NULCONF22
Thank you for joining us LIVE this morning as we hear from Sec. of Transportation @PeteButtigieg and other Biden Administration officials. And special thanks to our plenary sponsors @Google and @tmobile, for helping make this possible! #NULCONF22
“If we’re not realizing we’re in a modern-day civil war… It’s bigger than an election. There’s more going on.” -@coalitionbuildr#NULCONF22
We love having @CBSMMiller hosting our dynamic #WomenofPower Awards Luncheon, our time to recognize and honor the women blazing trails, shaking tables and smashing glass ceilings. #NULCONF22
Congrats to WOP Honoree @margaretanadu, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the @NYSE, who starts as a senior partner at a private investment firm after 20 years with Goldman Sachs (most recently head of sustainability and impact efforts at Goldman's asset-management arm)!
✊🏾 Today, we show up, stand up and speak up for civil rights, women’s rights and economic justice.
We’re ready to kick off our Urban League Fights for You Rally at the MLK Memorial here in our nation’s capital. Follow our social media for updates. #NULCONF22
We will give all we have to fight, and that is why we are here, says our President + CEO @MARCMORIAL. #NULCONF22
